As some of you know, I worked with Patrick Page for more than two years editing a big book of his magic which he wrote. I spent another year after his death getting everything organized.
Michael Albright, whom I consider the finest magic book designer ever, is preparing everything for publication. The book, “Magic: Page by Page,” will be 8 x 12 ins with more than 300 pages, lavishly illustrated, mostly with photos of Pat himself. It contains more than 200 tricks, moves and comedy bits including his often-copied Easy Money, his complete ground-breaking work on the Stacked Deck, Miser’s Dream, misdirection, the Topit vanisher, full details on 28 separately marketed effects, dozens of totally new, never before published effects created during the final years of his life, and much, much more, all written in his inimitable style. I’m hoping it will be out in June, and you’ll find more information as it becomes available at http://www.PatrickPageMagic.com . I don’t yet know about price, deluxe editions, etc. I’m just the lowly editor. Matt Field |

That sounds like a fantastic book.
Out in June too, looks as though my wife will be buying this for a silver wedding gift for me.

Can't wait for this book - I cannot remember looking forward to anything in magic so much for years!
If it contains a lifetime of Pat Page's magical routines, handling, misdirection and other influences, then it will just go to prove what a rip off this current one trick DVD culture has become. This will undoubtedly be the magical release of the year - I'd bet my house on it! Pat Page, to use a much overused word these days, is truly a LEGEND of our art.

Very good to hear.
I do agree that many one trick DVD's are worse than pathetic. But a big magic book no matter how great it is. Won't change the world of DVD's magic wise. Like it or not that form of media is here to stay and after DVD's are gone some other form of visual non readable media will have taken it's place. |

I had the pleasure to know Pat for many years as a member of the MC. He never suffered fools gladly but was always ready to help anyone with a genuine interest in magic and of course his knowledge of the whole history of our art was amazing. Technically he had fantastic skills across the whole spectrum of magical effects particularily close up. One quick story that has always stayed with me was when we were talking one day about when an act "dies" on stage. Pat's advice was just to take the money and move on. I remember saying to him (knowing what a great performer he was) " you've never died on stage Pat surely?" To which his reply was, "are you joking, I've walked off stage to the sound of my own footsteps!"
So anyone who has had a similar experience take heart it can happen to the best of us and the best would defintely include Pat. God bless him. Regards Steve........ |

Matt,
Is there a more detailed break down of the contents of this book? I checked out the pdf download via Pat's family's site but all this provides are chapter headings; and these, in them self, don't really say too much. For example, does the book contain Pat's Coins Thru Table, his Purse Frame ideas, Sponge Ball/Ambitious Card Routines, card to wallet ideas, etc.? Many thanks, in advance, for any clarification that can be provided.

Matt,
Thanks for such an in-depth response - that was actually what I needed to see! I have a lot of Pat's old video tapes but stupidly sold all of the written routines/DVD's when I cleared out (more or less) my entire magic collection in the summer. My reasoning was that most of Pat's material is actually in my head as I perform it anyway....but it was always great to refer back to nonetheless. I don't know how others on here feel BUT I think that the aforementioned list 'sells' the book better. This is one of magic's true LEGENDS basically giving his lifetime of magic away via the written word - and people can now see that they will truly be getting value for money. For example, just one of Pat's basic tips on Han Ping Chien (re: hand positioning) would take the move from being bodged by many, into a coin move in the miracle class. Card Under Ashtray may not sound much, but here again is a miracle - and undoubtedly the best lesson in misdirection that it was ever my pleasure to learn. I don't know how the family would feel but perhaps there's some added mileage to be gained by listing the full contents via Pat's website and/or any other marketing; simply so that people that may still be undecided, would see exactly what they are missing out on? Just a thought. I'll be ordering this book now to hopefully get it in time for Christmas. Once again, many thanks Matt for taking the time to reply to my request.

I was looking for a certain rope move tonight, did some research, and found out that Patrick Page had a version.
I thought, "I wonder if that's in my "Magic Page by Page" book." And it was. This book is filled with treasure that I'm still discovering two years later. : )

Great to hear about the new Pat Page book. I searched, and maybe it's me, but I couldn't find his excellent version of Sucker Silk included in the contents. But I hope it is. The effect uses just two silks, really good and very practical. I use it still.

Hi, I was very interested by a move in the routine COINS COINS COINS (p137), and would like to know if this move ever appeared in video (performance)?
Briefly described: magi drape a silk hank on his LH palm and displays 4 coins on top, RH points to the said coins, LH revolves palm down over the coins (a click sound is heard) as RH drops to the side. Coins in LH are revealed to be vanished thanks VG |
