Hello everybody,
I'm looking forward to building my own stage table. I've got already a clear idea of how it should look and how to build it. My challenge is, that I would like to be able to break the table apart for easier travelling. And that's where your help is needed ! Could somebody help and tell me how to hide the bolts so the audience doesn't see them, please ? What kind of material is light and sturdy enough and easy to work with simple tools to build a table that won't be too heavy ? What's your experience in this domain ? Thank you very much in advance for your help and please feel free to pm, if needed. I'll put this post as well in "The Workshop" section, since I don't know if this is the right place to post. Oliver. |

There are a lot of variables here. What do you need the table to do? What kind of props and /or steals are made from it? How small does it need to pack up? How much time do you want to take building it at the venue? What is the look you have considered?
There are tradeoffs in many ways. If it is heavy enough to work a wrist chopper on, it will be heavier than something to put a top hat to catch cards. It can fold the sides in and simply put on the top and shelves (nightclub style). Post what you you need or send me an email and I will help where I can. Lord knows, I have made enough variations for myself over the years. Richard

What would help is to put your "clear idea" down on paper, then scan it and attach it to your message. That way we can all see your idea and give futher advice.
I agree, your question is to general, I cannot guess what your idea looks like. Need your help. |

More info would be helpful, but check out this link to Rockler Woodworking. They have other solutions also. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=21578&rrt=1

Thank you very much for your input already.
You're right, that I didn't gave enough information about the table and what it will be used for etc... It's going to be quite large table in a triple "V" shape, about 90 cm high and about 120 cm large or even larger and about 60 cm deep. My inspiration comes from the decoration panels the orchestra players have in the Big Bands with the Band initials written on and a stage set I've seen. It hasn't a lot of weight to support, since only "small" props will be put in and on. The top of the table will have a recess so I can easier access the stuff in the table and for the moment I don't think that it needs to have special "devices" to steal from it. The link that AGmagic gave will help me for sure. Thanks. Concerning the time spent to assemble the pieces at the venue shouldn't be longer than 10 minutes. Well, I think that's all I can give on information for the moment. Thank you very much again for your help. Oliver. P.S. : Richard, I've send you an e-mail. |

Oliver,
I have not gotten your email yet. Good thing I have been doing a lot of College Track meets so I understand the metric measurements. How would you feel about carrying a load bag with the table in? If you do not want to do that, what are the maximum dimensions you can fit in your act case? I've got a couple of ideas that I can try to sketch up for you. But send me the email. Richard

Oliver, it sounds like you are describing a table that is similar to a music stand from the Big Band era. If I understand what you are saying in describing the table, you may be able to assemble the "V"s with hinges and attach the top with loose pin hinges. one half of each hing mounts to the underside of the top and the other half mounts to the inside top of one of the "V"s. Removing the hinge pin allows you to disengage the top from the base. Use as many loose pin hinges as necessary for stability. This is a time tested method of creating illusions that can knock down for shipping.
I used this method to build a coffin for a play about 2 years ago. I later donated it to my son's school theatre program where it remains the favorite prop of the students, used nearly every day. It remains as solid today as it was the day I built it.

Richard,
I've tried to send send you an e-mail to both of your adresses, but both came back undelivered. Here's a picture of the stage backdrop that got me inspired. I hope the link works : http://www.stars-actu.com/index.php?post......t-Pokora It's the second picture from the top and only the middle part of the stage set (central "V" with one pannel on each side). After the table is built I thought as well about a recall of the form on the backdrop and the two sides of the stage as a stage set. Thanks, Oliver. |

My email is hugmagic@raex.com. I do not know why there would be a problem. I received several emails this morning.

Richard, I just tried dropping you a note using your email link above and it does come back as an error. It doesn't recognize something about the address.
Hope you're doing well my friend. Steve |
