There are a number of effects where the spectator is asked to mark card behind their back and then bury the card in the deck only to later have the magician scan through the deck to find the marked card. While some of these effects are appealing to me I can not get past the odd way of having a card selected.
I can justify having the spectator put the cards behind their back and mark card but I can't find any justification for burying the card if I'm just going to look through the deck to find the card that is marked. Why wouldn't I just have them hand it to me after they marked it. Has anyone come up a presentation that makes it logical to have the card buried after marking it. I assume that, like the criss-cross force, a time delay would help obscure what was done but I'm still looking for more. Thanks, Joe |

The answer might be in order to add escalation to the effect. Consider the following... They pick any card, they mark it on the face, they put it back into the deck. You shuffle, you find the card in some impressive sleight-of-handy way. At this point, if you got them to shuffle the deck, mark one behind their back, shuffle the deck again, and then hand it to you, you've created a situation where things should be very, very difficult for the magician to find the card.

Escalation might be able to be used but the problem lies in that after they mark and bury their card I'm simply going to go through the deck to find the card with a mark on the back and turn it over to see which card they selected.
Hmm, I think I've might have just answered my own question. The marking of the card is being used to force a card. I'll have to go back to these effects and see if another force can be substituted. |
