What I found most interesting and significant about the video linked in the OP was not so much his work with cards (which was, of course, fantastic) but how he described his ability. He didn't make a disclaimer (e.g., admit he uses trickery -- although he did mention a childhood interest in magic, as does Kreskin BTW) nor did he make any unsupportable claims (e.g., NLP, "special powers," etc. -- although he did mention that he studied psychology). He simply claimed an "ability" -- which he then proceeded to demonstrate. Who could possibly deny that he the clearly offered ample proof of that claim?
There is an important lesson there for anyone who wants to establish a credible reputation in our craft. I wonder how many of those who read this thread overlooked that aspect of his presentation and concentrated instead on trying to dissect the method(s) he employed.

Can't remember which clip it is - but someone asks chan "how?"...
"it's quite simple, I made you choose it..." has a lovely dual reality to it for those in the know, watching it and those who are experiencing it... people should also be aware that chan's shows were live on the BBC... and he once caused all the telivisions in the UK to switch off at once...The Beed received lots of complaints from people saying "i hope you're going to be paying for my new tv set..."

He called what he did "PSYCHOMAGIC" a great term for what he did.
And his switching off all the TVs was fantastic who would have thought to use that method.Brilliant! |

I think if you watch the Parkinson clip carefully, IMHO you can see Chan's miss is NOT deliberate but it's wonderful that we have this example of what he did when he did miss.
He also admitted to setting "experiments" up in the hope that they would work out - no magic method, just the hope that he'd get lucky. There are some examples in the two books. |
