I'm really on the fence about getting this effect. Does anyone have a solid review yet? The guys on Wizard Product Review were raving about it, but I want to know who has actually performed this in the real world? Thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance.

It is hard not to believe the WPR did not feel a little bad about trashing another of his products. I bought it, 19-20 bucks hard to argue. I have not done it and may not given the lengthy set up which they allude to on WPR but were not as aggresive about with this product. It is a good trick. You can work out the general idea from the description and demo. You are paying for the details and his tips for set up not for a revolutionary magic prinicple.

From what I understand this is a pretty well thought out effect that is only now getting some attention.

Well.........got it, watched it, made it, tried it, liked it.
Now, to be thourough, these guys are taking a pretty simple cool effect and making it waaaaaaaaaaaay more complicated tan it needs to be! The best thing about this trick is it's versatility: it can be combined into a great many table-hopping tricks & routines, for instance I use it in conjunction with the hot rod. Now, if you work at a restaraunt where they give out crayons to draw on the paper tablecloth, then I'd say go ahead & try these guys' "crayonology-101" But I'd say generally speaking there are a lot of simpler & cooler ways to introduce the colors into the routine. However you decide to do it though, if youre a tablehopper, I'd DEFINETLY reccomend this trick!

I'd agree. The thing with the crayons takes up the majority of the DVD, but is completely unnecessary for the basic effect. It just provides one way (of many possibilities) to have a color selected and a little extra effect which is nice, but not critical. The crayons just won't be organic to most working conditions. While a Sharpie variant is also provided, this had some problems from my point of view.
I think the main advantage of this effect is the idea in which a color is named, a sweetener packet is opened, and the sweetener is the same color as that named. That is a great effect, but the basic workings could have been summarized in about ten minutes. |

Frankly, the DVD turned me off. At several points, he said "I don't condone stealing", and went on to suggest how you might get some components you need by... frankly... stealing. It just bugs me when someone says "I don't condone stealing" and then goes on to suggest that you could steal something. He talked about / hinted at stealing single crayons from Walmart, stealing a sugar packet holders from restaurants, etc.
His description/comments drag on... forever. To do all the effects requires a huge amount of set up... |

I just got the DVD today.
I must say I was really disappointed at first. And I'm somewhat confused that nobody above mentioned the obvious ugly sales method used. The first two sentences of the trick are "A spectator is handed a sugar packet from the table and asked to hold on to it. A box of crayons are introduced and the spectator is asked to select a color". Well, when I watched the DVD I realized that my money didn't buy that trick. It bought the trick where someone mentions a color and THEN I pick up a packet. I realize ofc it's a winning strategy, but in my book it is unethical and immoral. At least be honest about, make it sound strong, but PLEASE describe the ACTUAL effect you want to sell. I hope people who believe the description of the effect think twice before they buy it. But as a conclusion I must say it IS a trick that probably works fine and I have no issue with the effect itself. I might even use it myself. I'm just tired of dealers and inventors who close their eyes and lie flat out in order to sell. Take care folks! Best wishes/ Daniel Karlsson |

I geuss you have to make this effect to your own.
And yes, You have some preparation to do befor you can show. But the reactions of kids are great. I don't use craytons. It's hard to get in The Netherlands and if you find some... the smell terrible! :-O So I use just pencils! Works exact the same! To make the colours, I don't use sand! If you say that's Chris way is misleading, you are totally right! So do I just use Sugar!!! Easy, no dangerous misunderstaning and maybe it makes childeren some high activity by (coloured) sugar!!! :-P And I can do this effect 4-5 times sequence before I have to reload. So what's the problem? For ME was to hard to find just the paper FLAT Sugar bags. And to get a 'few', not 4000 pieces! If you want to do this effect and see the trailer, you can know what you have to buy for using this effect: suger bags, crayton, some colour, right? And to buy the stuff it's cost money like everything. But isn't take a good effect time? for preparation and practice? Try-out before you quitt! I 'm just looking now for the best way/moment to switch the Sugar bag, when the spectator chose one. Some of my thoughts is the mexican turnover, changing in my hand befor/after taking the crayton. Have somebody experiance to switching the bags? |
