I'm wondering if someone on this forum could give me some advice as to the various types of flower productions for stage, both in the hands and productions using a prop, box, etc. I perform mostly close-up, but I'm trying to identify and get recommendatons for the different types available and also which dealers you would recommend. This is something that would be used in a production of the Nutcracker, so something, if using a prop, that would look appropriate in this context. Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

This a pretty wide open request.
I have done productions for the Nutcracker. Cane to bouquet with pointsettias and sleeve bouquets have been used. Is this something you will do or are you training a non magician to do this stuff. It makes a big difference. Also what kind of budget are you looking at? I suggest you look at my website (there are videos) and get a few ideas what you are interested in. I have built the entire Blackstone flower sequence twice and numerous other productions. So there is a lot of directions to go into. Also there are a few videos on You Tube. Richard

Thanks, I'll check out your website. This would be something that a non-magician would need to perform, and I would need to teach them. So, something not to complicated or sleight of hand heavy. I'm not looking for anything too costly, hopefully under $100. Also, something that only one person would perform (producing a flower or flowers for someone), that's of course visual, but nothing that needs to fill the stage. So, it could be something as simply as using the Vernet flower production or some type of tray held by the performer, which would produce a bouquet of flowers. A cane production may or may not work, I'm really not familiar with this type of production.

$100 does not leave much to work with. You might be better off with a different type of effect. There is no sense in doing something that is not impressive or second rate.
Teaching a non magician can be very tricky. They are usually more concerned about their other aspects of their performance. Richard

For what you suggesting for the money you wish to put into this, you will have to use paper spring flowers or cheap India made feather flowers that look really pad. I do not know of any DVD or publication that tells how to produce single flowers, there was a video tape out years ago that told how to produce real flowers, don't know if it is still around in DVD.
You could maybe buy some of the small booklets on flowers, that may give you some ideas. Here is one on feather flowers: http://www.magicinc.net/magicwithfeatherflowerbouquets.aspx Here is one on spring paper flowers: http://www.magicinc.net/flowersthatbloomwithaspring.aspx Here is one that tells you how to make paper bouquets and ideas on how to use them: http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Martineaus%......quet.htm Hope this give you some ideas and help, Richard Hughes would be an excellent source as well. |

Thanks for the info and websites. Also, thanks Richard. I checked out your website and the flowers that you sell look great. I've decided that since teaching a non magician would be difficult, especially since I don't have a lot of time to do so (Nutcracker production in June, I know, don't ask me why:) I'm probably going to try to use the Vernet flower production or a more self working bouquet production from a tray. Also, Richard, I came across a thread on the Café from 2009 in which you had posted some information on the Vernet flowers, and I believe Knepper's flower production, which was very helpful. Again, Thanks to both of you.
