Not really. But when the mood strikes, you can make up a bunch of them.

I use to make them on Sunday and use them for the week. Once you get the hang of making them, it moves faster!

So would you reccomend buying like 100 newspapers at once on the same day?

If you buy the Sunday Newspaper you should be able to make several sets.

I saw an employee at a store cutting parts off of all of the papers before they closed. I asked what it was about. I might not have this 100% right, but some newspapers give credit for ones not sold, but only ask for a certain part of the paper. You might be able to get papers cheap, or free.

Don't know what you use for glue Luke. But a glue stick works best and is the quickest. Takes me ten or twelve minutes to make up one set, unless that is I don't perform it for a while, then I forget the folds and have to go back to the diagrams.

Part of the strength of this trick is using that day's local paper. Yes, it's a subtle thing, but little details make a BIG difference.
The more you do this trick, the faster your set-up time will become. I can set up, using rubber cement in 5 minutes. I would suggest buying the 100 papers for practice, not performance! Just my thoughts - but I have been doing this for more than 25 years in almost every conceivable venue. Lou |

On the other hand when youre doing 25 shows a week at the Magic Castle or 5 or more shows a day 6 days a week at a theme park, It wouldn't bother me as much to see someone using a more generic paper. It's a choice.

I would advise investing in Axel's NewsFlash, the setup and reset take about 2 to 3 mins once you get the fold down.
Okay, I give up what was your card?

It does no good to make Anderson paper tear to far in advance, as this will hinder the flash reveal. Even if you prepare them, you have to store them open, and not completely set up. So there will always be some final things to do before the current show.
Then also remember, newpaper does not last long, it get brittle and off color in a very short time. If folded, it retains it memory and is very difficult to remove the creases,if at all. I get the feeling this thread is really about how easy is it to have the trick always ready to go, and what is the least amount of work I have to do to do the trick. This trick is not a set it and forget it trick. The best possible working of the trick will come from freshly set up newspapers. It is always best to learn something very well, that way if anything is out of place you will be able to fix it at once. If a person approaches the trick with the idea of having fun, then it is not work at all. The only set it and forget it newspaper tears are the Patrick Page 10 second newspaper tear and Neil Foster's Center Tear. These can be prepared weeks in advance and you just pick them up and perform them. The Elmsly may be able to do this as well, but I have not read that in a while and am not positive. |

I bought the Baxt newspaper tear from someone here on the Café, and I can literally set it up in less than one minute. All I need is the newspaper and I'm ready to go. It has it's disadvantages, but the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages (in my opinion), and to the spectator there's really no difference.

I only use rubber cement for the paper to paper part and use elmers glue for all the rest of the gluing. Elmers is very fast to apply and to dry. That makes it fast for me. Most of the time, I then apply wax paper and transport both papers in my case and set them before the show.
