I know lots of us have presented to MPI...but has anyone ever actually JOINED it?
If so...how did it work for you? Feel free to PM if you don't want to post here. Thank you! David

I have been a member over the years. (Not currently, thou I am considering re-joining again. – as well as others.)
Like ANY organization (Professional, Social, Civic, Networking, Chamber… etc.) it is (in my experience.) about what you can GIVE, Contribute, Share, Help, Serve, Support… and THEN, ‘eventually’ it might be about what you may get. - - But that is true of most, if not all in my experience. The more and better you contribute, the more and better the reward for “EVERYONE”. It is sooooooooo incredibly well worth it, but (again, in my experience) it IS about how you can contribute and help others first and then… well you get the idea. My .02 cents worth. I am at your service and in HIS Service, Dean <><

Here in Montreal I attend their special events, I have considered joining but they hold only 2 social events a year (where you can meet fellow members), the balance of activities are classes, either in French or English. Some of the French classes would be beyond both my interest and language abilities ie. the technical ones. I have attended some of the English programs and enjoyed both the topic and associating with the members. With that being said if you are trying to reach the actual meeeting planners within the group there are other ways. Remember there are several categories of members ie. planners, suppliers, student members, not all whom would be interest to you.
For myself I do have a certificate in event planning, so I enjoy the planning side of the seminars Another thing to note is that MPI try to keep a balance of planners versus suppliers (us), a supplier has to be sponsored at the time a planner is joining. So 1 planner. 1 supplier joins. Not sure about out West, but Ottawa I have been told is a very active group. B P.S. For those wondering, MPI is Meeting Planners International. P.P.S. I think the question should be "How did you work the group" not "how did it work for you?" P.P.S. I felt bad last year as I attended the Industry Day event as a non-member. I won the only prize, a $2500.00 weekend in Toronto. From that came performances for the Toronto Tourism board when they did events here in Montreal. (If you want to discuss, either PM me or we can Skype)

Most that I know that are part of MPI get the benefits of networking, supportand such but not bookings so much, so I guess it depends on what your expectations are.

As with any group your interested in, you have to join with the intent of building relationaships, and it would be for the longterm, even more so with a group like MPI.
