Hey there!
I just found Paul Voodini's new ebook on lybrary.com . Right now I have no time to buy or read any new books but it looks really tempting ! I think the blob sounds really interesting. Does anyone have it and would care to post a review? If not, I'll do so in about 4 weeks when everything calmed down a bit over here! Here's the ad: "In Victorian London, the chimney sweep was a man who lived half way between night & day, between light & dark. A man who breathed smoke and handled hot coals. A man who, it was believed, talked to demons and angels as he made his way upwards through the chimney from the hearth to the stars. A man who cheated Death on a daily basis. To shake hands with a sweep was to bring yourself good luck, and if a woman should kiss a sweep then folklore dictated that she would be pregnant within the year, and the child would have the ’gift’ of clairvoyance. And for those souls brave enough to cross his palm with a silver sixpence, the sweep would always carry with him his pendulum and his cards and he would tell your fortune. Good or ill. The sweep would see it all. Paul Voodini presents the Chimney Sweep’s Victorian Oracle. This ebook contains a full reading guide along with the lost history of the Victorian chimney sweep readers. Sweeping the chimney cost a penny. Divining the future cost sixpence. Utilizing two items that we are sure you already own (a pack of playing cards and a pendulum), this fascinating ebook will allow you to provide stunning readings with an enchanting back-story. Take a walk along the fog shrouded streets of olde London Town, where spiritualism and mesmerism vied for the attentions of the sensation hungry public, and Jack the Ripper and Sherlock Holmes stalked the cobble-stoned alleyways of the legendary East End. This is the world of the Chimney Sweep’s Victorian Oracle. Paul Voodini’s Chimney Sweep’s Victorian Oracle will allow you to quickly master a half-forgotten method of divination, and bestow upon yourself the title “Honorary Sweep and Diviner of Fortunes”! This ebook also includes a guide to that other traditional method of fortune telling employed in the East End of London - the legendary tea leaves! " I hope it's a great new idea to readings, not old stuff re-told. But from what I read from Paul so far I believe it'll be good! Oh, I found it here: http://www.lybrary.com/chimney-sweeps-vi......838.html All the best, Timon.

From what I can gather from reviews for the product (the whole kit is for sale somewhere), it's a reading system using cards and a pendulum, with nice props and a story. Some of Voodini's stuff has been pretty good; some I really didn't care for. I'm not springing for this.

I have really enjoyed everything by Paul I have got. He is a working pro (very very entertaining) and the stuff is generally practical. I am happy with my reading system, but liked the sound of this.

Paul references the effect and sends people here: http://www.victorianseance.co.uk/ But I can't find a reference to the specific system you've referenced.
It appears to have gotten only one review here: http://alchemymoon.heavenforum.org/t1306......n-oracle I must admit that the sell copy is most intriguing. David

Just got it. I've also have mixed feelings with Voodini, but I thought I'd give it a try. I'll post a review when I've had a chance to read it over, and maybe after giving it a go.

Nothing groundbreaking here, but it's a guide to giving a very simple and charming method of doing a reading.
It starts with a very short history of the chimney sweep as a mystic, then introduces using a pendulum and standard playing cards as an oracle. It then gives the card meanings and the spread used (an extremely simple spread based on familiar card games). Specifically how the reading is described and then recapped, and at the very end there's a 2 page guide to interpreting tea leaves. The whole ebook is 19 pages, though not especially dense pages. Even though there's nothing really new for someone who's done readings before, it's not a bad purchase at all for $12. The minimal use of the pendulum is engaging and the values and spreads are extremely easy for anyone to memorize, though I assume a lot of people will substitute their Tarot or standard card meanings and have an even easier time of it. I personally find that a lot of the time when "mystery entertainers" (or whatever is the going term) throw in some history it comes across as a bit pretentious or is hard to incorporate smoothly, but in this case the historical part seems to just add some charm and to lighten things a bit. All in all, I'd recommend it as a very easy to learn way of doing a quick and lighthearted reading. It probably won't suit everyone, but at $12 you're not out a lot of money if you're not satisfied. There is not much (if anything) that's especially novel, but it comes together nicely and I can see myself using this. |

Thank you for the review. I think I'll pick it up afterall.
Do you think the "reading" could be done with Tarot cards or is it a straight up playing card effect? I'm thinking about twinning a simple system with Outlaw's Carnie Tarot Deck. David

Might be fun to mix iron filings with soot and mess around with PK as a segue into other presentations...

The meanings are for a standard deck and last I knew Carnie is only Major Arcana, though, so you'd just be using your own meanings and not the ones in the ebook. The pendulum is used for divining what the reading is to be about, so if you don't care about staying true to the sweep's system you could substitute in any sort of reading. |

Here's a great little system to get you going and create a nice mood for the sitter. The use of a pendulum gets the client involved and sets the tone for the reading, creating direction and focus. I'll use my own system to read the cards, but I do like the idea of using old playing cards as Paul suggests, to set the mood. I own a set of French playing cards. The deck was hand painted by the late great, Jean Claude Flornoy. I may use these cards along with Paul's pendulum ideas.
The manuscript is thoughtfully written. One can tell Paul has respect for the art of reading for the public |
