Hello Everyone,
I am not new to this site, however, I AM new to the Holy Spirit. I don't know if you have heard of this, but I attended "The Walk To Emmaus" this past weekend and have been pretty much born again. Those of you whom have attended I am sure you can relate. In any case, this is actually my first time to visit this particular part of the Café', to be honest, I never even noticed it before, although it has been here all along, sounds like someone else I just met. Anyway,I had not received any bookings for shows in the last 3 months, I never advertise, but on occasion word of mouth does the trick. I have to tell you that the day after I came to know Jesus like I had never before, I received 2 phone calls, one from 1st Baptist Church in Howe, Tx, and one from Freindship Methodist Church in Sherman, Tx. Both with requests for magic shows. I had never performed at a church before, and have never attended either of these churches. I believe that God is calling me to use my talents to spread his word and I would like to accept his calling publicly. My first church show is tonight, I have a couple of questions. 1. Is it wrong of me to "not charge" for the show? I informed both of these establishments that I do not charge a fee to Churches, but I do accept donations. 2. Where would be a good source for Magic in ministry? I ask for your prayers and advise, and I wholeheartedly thank those at the Café' for providing a forum such as this to visit each day. Thank you and God Bless Tom

Congratulations on assuring your eternal future!
And thanks for the testimony of Faith, as God WILL provide. Whether or not to charge a Church is a good question. My good friend Shadow will likely be a better source of response on this question, but I will offer my opinion now, and defer to Shadow later if he comments. I see no problem with either way. You can charge a set fee, or take an offering, depending on the situation and what your prayers yield as direction. I have seen it work both ways (I don't do Church shows myself, since my act is more evangleistic so what I have "seen" is second hand) and seen God work amazing things. You can be sure that you will be blessed. But the form and magnitude of the Blessing is up to God. So as long as you are willing to trust Him, you will not be dissapointed. But remember that God said a man is worthy of his pay. So, pray about it, and if you decide that you should charge, I think that is fine. And if you decide not to charge, that is fine too. God will provide according to his will and your need. Good Christian magic information can be gotten from a number of source, and Duane Laflin tops my personal list. He has a web site with much good literature, and many fine effects. Another top pick is Andre Kole and his web site, Doc Haley Magic, and consider seeking out an FCM (Fellowship of Christian Magicians) chapter in your area. I get more from our monthly meeting, than I can even begin to express. The fellowship, guidance, sharing, is priceless. BroDavid

Welcome over here Tom.
Hmm after only a short time. Just think if you said, felt and meant the Prayer of Jabez on a daily basis. Be ready. I try to have an attitude of gratitude when the phone rings off the wall as well as the slower times. This spring and summer have been one if not the best ever. I have never been to what you shared about. My wife came back from Denver's Women of Faith Conference with a recharged spirit. Of course prior to going she was and is one of the most spiritually based person I know. Nice seeing your name over here. Although I have been blessed for many years I only recently surfed onto this stool in the Café. Churches are great places to share. In His Name Harris Deutsch Laugholgist

Welcome to the flock as well as this forum.
Thanks for the hand off Bro.David. I am not sure why he thinks I’m such an expert. <LOL> I do tend to charge churches for my shows but I almost never set a price. I believe God is my provider and He knows my needs, I ask churches to pray about it and give as God leads them. That being said, I have driven over 150 miles without a clue of what I’d be paid, and God has never failed to make the payment more than I was hoping (praying) for. I feel that if I take a few hours, drive a few miles, do a few tricks and only get gas money, if just one person gets saved I’m happy. The real cool thing is that God has blessed me in using the art he gave me, to lead over 200 people to a saving knowledge of Him in the last year, and I have been paid very well to boot! I do however do some free shows as well, I never want money to be a block in the ministry. My advice would be pray and seek Gods will. Call: Bruce Chadwick 817-927-0581 He owns a magic shop in DFW and hosts the local FCM meetings. May God bless you as you embark on the new ministry. |

Hi Tom, welcome to Gods family! Sometimes we have to go through tough times to realise we need God in our lives.
I'll be praying for you, "good luck". Brian |
