After many productions, consistent with the "dream" part of Miser's Dream, it is shown to all be just that, a dream, and the cup is crumpled and torn into pieces. If using your pockets to deposit the coins into, Wilson's Complete Course's Continuous Coins has the extra coins in the pocket where the "deposits" are made. I've not tried this to know how convincing that is. Mike: Can you give more details of the effect you mentioned? John

The Sylvester Pitch can be used for a nice out of the pocket miser's dream.

I had lunch with him once, and he went through the entire routine step by step. Looked great in his hands (which are substantially larger than mine). The published routine includes a fire flash production in the beginning, and ends with a shower of coins from the spectator's nose, followed by a jumbo coin production. But you can eliminate the extras if you're working impromptu, and just go with the basic productions with a pocket full of coins. Pace used dollar sized palming coins, as they work well with the hand positions and look impressive when produced. It would be a lot harder with quarters. My stand-up in-the-hands Miser's Dream effect is done with no container and no gaffs (and no black art). I have performed this close-up, but normally perform it in a parlor setting. The routine is recited in verse.
It's called Coins From Vegas. You can see it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BNQj4Sjsxg Larry |

Don't mean to be rude, but it looks like you keep producing the same coin over and over. Teller did a Miser's once which I think you can find on YouTube, and he kept using different methods, including clean open hand displays, that cancelled out possible solutions. I don't see that with this routine. It goes on long enough, using essentially the same (or variations of similar) methods over and over, that I can't see how people wouldn't get onto it after the first few coins.

Sorry you didn't care for the routine. I've gotten excellent responses over the years from lay audiences and magician audiences. The Teller routine that I've seen uses a bucket and is not an in the hands routine. As far as the same coin appearing over and over, take another look at the video and turn up the sound. Each time you see a coin appear in the right hand, it is a different coin from the prior two. That same coin drops into the left hand and you HEAR it and SEE it going into the left hand. That's not an illusion. If the coins were color coded, you would see the right hand coin alternating in three different colors since three coins are recirculated using the Pivoting Changeover Palm and the Flying Changeover Palm at different times. In most Miser's Dream routines, the audience sees a coin appear and hears a coin fall into a pail. But's it's usually the same coin over and over. That's not the case with my routine.

OK, but by way of comparison, check out Jim Pace's routine from A-Material. It's so clean that you can actually hand the coins one at a time to the spectator. No bucket. It's a close-up routine that he used in restaurants and cocktail parties. Maybe yours would be really impressive to magicians if you could color code the coins, as you say. I'm just saying that in the video you posted, there's way too much hand coverage and closed positions, which are antithetical to the magic when the entire effect is that your hands are producing things from thin air. Why would you use closed fists if that's what you were really doing?
Like I said, I don't mean to be rude, and have enjoyed your writing, so I'm just referring to this particular performance of this particular effect. Your changeover palm has some great applications - just not sure this is among the best.
