Does anyone use the Duracell PowerPack 600 to power their show.
Speakers, Wireless Mic., MP3Tech & etc. I would like to hear of your experience with it. Realiability? How many hours does it last? How many shows can you dow without re-charging it. I'm sure others would be interested in hearing too. http://www.amazon.com/Duracell-DPP-600HD......2&sr=8-1 Thanks-Nez

If you get one let us know how it works out.

You might want to look at this instead:
http://www.alienbees.com/vmini.html Although more expensive, it has the following advantages: 1.) It uses a pure sine wave inverter where the Duracell uses a modified sine wave inverter. A pure sine wave inverter gives you clean power. Some electronics can be damaged by using a modified sine wave inverter. 2.) It's much smaller and lighter! This unit uses the latest lithium battery technology rather than a sealed lead acid battery. The Duracell uses a sealed lead acid battery (the same type of battery that a car uses). They have to be carefully maintained or they will sulfate. They have to be kept charged. If you don't keep them charged, they start losing capacity. Charge them too long without use and they will also start to lose capacity. (You can read details on that page.) 3.) You can easily change the battery in this system if you need to run longer than one battery will allow. I wish I had one of these. I bought their older battery system to operate my studio lights ( http://www.alienbees.com/VIIsystem.html ) and began using it with my magic shows when I had the power go out at a library. I didn't have it with me that day and was unable to use any of my music. (The power went out just before my show and came back right after my show ended!) I then decided to experiment with the Vagabond II. I used it just to run my small PA for a show. (I use a 30-watt Roland CM-30 for smaller shows.) It worked perfectly. Then, I tested it by running both my PA system and my fan (I use a small fan to keep myself cool during shows.) It also worked perfectly. I'm not sure how long I can run my PA and fan off my Vagabond II but I'm also pretty sure the battery is not in peak condition. I bought it used and the prior owner did not maintain it the way it was supposed to so I think the capacity has been reduced. I'm pretty sure that it would easily work through two performances (with the fan running) if the battery was in new condition. Without a fan running from it, the battery would last even longer. Now, for my larger shows, I use a Carvin StageMate: http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/si......D&cid=10 Unfortunately, that version is more expensive than mine. They used to sell one without the built-in special effects unit and it was $100 less. Anyway, I have to batteries in mine and it will run for 6-8 hours on a charge. |

Michael,
How long might that power a Fender Passport 150? Thanks! Dan. |

The separate purchase of a power conditioner can help with "dirty" power (not a pure sine wave).

I do know that Fender used to make a battery pack for their Passport systems (now discontinued) and it used 12v 17 amp hour battery. The Vagabond II that I use (the larger battery system from Alienbees) uses a 12v 20 amp hour battery so, in theory, it should work as well. The Fender battery system was supposed to last 4-6 hours. I just don't know if there are other factors. I couldn't even guess about the newer Vagabond Mini Lithium battery system. These battery packs were intended to use with studio flash units. Studio flash units don't draw power constantly. They only draw when firing so I don't know how to that translates to continuous use. The tech people at Alienbees are pretty nice so you could call them and see what they say about the lithium battery system for this use. Quote:

George - thanks for starting this discussion. I recently purchased the Duracell Powerpack 600 and it stands up to the test in terms of running mics and sound through at least several 1 hour shows. That being said, Michael's discussion of the limitiations are very much true. It needs to be plugged in while not in use and is much heavier than the product he shared. The Vegabond Mini would seem like a sure winner for the reasons described above, unless price is a major concern. Anything made to run lights will last forever running sound, so the passport system (I run a Passport 250 off the Duracell Powerpack 600 with no problem)will run a long time off the Vegabond Mini. I sure wish I knew about it before purchasing Duracell Powerpack 600. Thanks for the info Michael.

I have a friend that has one of the Vagabond Mini battery systems and I'll see if he will let me borrow it to test out how long it will run. I won't have another performance I can test it with until Thursday so I'll report back after that. Michael |

Okay, I just got done running my show using the Vagabond Mini Lithium battery pack. First, let me say this is a really convenient little system. It's lightweight and compact. I plugged my fan and my PA system into the Vagabond Min Lithium. I started the fan operating when I was setting up and then used the battery pack for my 40-magic show. I was using a small PA (Roland CM-30: http://www.rolandus.com/products/product......ctId=663 ) and a Honeywell Turbo Fan on low ( http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-HT800-Su......000BYDUC - this version is discontinued). I started with a fully charged battery and, by the time the show was done, the battery pack was indicating that it was down to 1/4 power. The fan ran another 30 minutes after the show was over without the battery running out of power so it would work for my setup.
Things to keep in mind: 1.) The CM-30 is a 30-watt PA system and won't draw as much power as a Fender Passport PD-150. I don't know how to determine how much more power the Passport draws than the Roland. (I'm not very well versed on electronics.) 2.) The room I was in wasn't very large so the PA wasn't turned up a lot. Again, if I had to use more volume, the power consumption would go up. 3.) I'm pretty sure my fan is drawing more power than my PA system. I think the larger Vagabond II, with the sealed lead acid battery, will last longer than the Vagabond Mini Lithium. The good news is that Paul C. Buff, Inc., maker of the Vagabond power packs, has a 60-day absolute satisfaction guarantee. If you don't like it, you can return it for a refund within 60 days. (They don't refund the shipping to you nor the cost of shipping it back.) I am very tempted to switch to the Mini Lithium for the convenience. Michael |

Michael,
Thank you so much for your test and insights. I'm thinking of making a go out of it. Dan. |
