Hi all just joined and hope to be an active member. Interested in all close-up magic, including metal techniques, and apart from other less interesting things I do close-up for museums usually on their specialist open days or linked to objects in the collections.

Welcome museummagician,
Just to clarify, do you mean Metal techniques like spoon bending or Magic that uses mag***s or Mental techniques? I really like the museum as a site for Close-Up Magic. My partner and I have had a chance to work at an Art Museum a couple of times and at a Science Center. They were both great spaces for Close-Up Magic. When I think of linking objects in the collection to the Magic my mind goes right to the crass and comedic. I'm hoping you're more tasteful in your approach. -Mary Mowder |

Really both (metal and mental) use all the necessary techniques etc. The museum magic is a mix of open day "table hopping" and using magic in educational ways linked to the museums objects or to show that some magic can be traced back thousands of years. This is for both school groups and adult visitors and appears to work well with both. It also helps develop peoples thoughts about the beliefs of those who lived so long ago and how conjurers of the time could have so much respect.

Welcome! Try "A Penny for your Thoughts" -- that's where the mentalism guys hang out.
