I came across a copy of the 3rd edition in secondhand book store. Happily paid £5 ($8) price tag

It really only has its value within a particular group of people-us to layman its just another Derren book which they assume you can get from Waterstones or WHsmith for £10 so its quite possible , I think for this to happen. Id now like to think id come across Absolute Magic in the same manner!

Actually it was my other half, I already owned a copy for a few years and remarked how expensive it had become. She rang me and told me she had spotted a copy for £5. I now own 2 copies and I have left the price sticker on one
edited to add. I have been keeping an eye on the same shop for absolute magic, Pretty sure lightening wont strike twice, But Miracles happen |

To all those above declaring that they've never heard of a spiral bound first or second edition.........do your homework!
Of course there were two spiral bound editions, the first edition Darren put out were ALL spiral bound and had the two extra chapters. Also, there were an undetermined number of the second edition books (that were minus the two chapters) Darren put out himself that were ALSO spiral bound. As to whether this particular book is a bootleg, it may or may not be...........but it has nothing to do with a spiral binding MAKING it a bootleg. As a matter of fact, minus the question "is this a bootleg", there's NO evidence provided whatsoever to support that it might be a bootleg other than the totally unsupported and uninformed assertions made above in this thread. |

Yes, just because 'you' have never heard of the spiral bound versions doesn't mean they don't exist.
And anyway, you should be able to work out the effects he removed from this version before it went to hardback, when you have a reasonable level of competence and knowledge. The amount some people will pay for the method to 'Reminisence' is hilarious (someone offered me £100 to tell them how the piece worked. I took the money and showed them a thumbtip..ok I didn't really, but I felt like doing that). If you can't work it out you don't deserve to know - or you are not educated in the art enough and are not ready to know. But I think the auction item is legitimate. I have seen one before in person, it looked identical. |

I have the spiral bound version and it looks exactly like the image above. It was sold by Derren during lectures. It contains the two "missing" tricks that were not included in the later hardbound releases. Its a great book.

The inside cover clearly says second edition though.

As stated, do your homework guys, Derren sold his signed, spiral bound second editions exactly as shown at International's magic convention, I know I bought one.
I find it amazing that members consider it fine to jump in with comments which have nothing more than unfounded opinions rather than fact to base them on.
