States dictate all sorts of things on the road: how fast you can go, must carry insurance, can't talk on a cell phone, can't text, must have a license, can't drive a truck on certain road, you have to wear a seatbelt, you have to wear a helmet. their roads, their right. Should we have protests that say there shouldn't be any speed limits?
As much as I'd like to see darwin in action, the thought of walking around in a world of Gary Busseys is more than I wish to contemplate. |

Also someone should tell ol Glennie we do not live in a democracy anyhow. It is called a represenative republic, at least in America.

You, and others, simply refuse to read anything I post and address it on its own merits without inferring anarchy. I'm not denying constantly criticizing government, and addressing things from the position of liberty, but I am almost NEVER the one who insists on dragging everything down to the fact that I think it just might be possible to get along without a government. Now that might not be a simple two word answer, but then again, you didn't actually ask a direct question. Now, please stop *bringing up anarchy and then accusing me of bringing it up. *in this thread I believe it was Destiny who brought it up. You, however, refuse to let it go.

Yea it does make a logical line you are right. But then again, the idea that driving is not a right comes into play. Lots of logical arguements on both sides really.

As I elaborated a few posts later, I was referring to your inconsistency with your think when it comes to things like drugs. Once again, this would be YOU inferred sonething, and then blaming me, because YOU simply can't get past the whole "anarchy" thing and focus on what I actually say.

I don't know. what is the cost to other people of someone not wearing a helmet? We'll we do know that fatalities would go up. If there was no helmet law, the number of people killed every year in motorcycle accidents would increase. But those guys are dead. How about those that are just brain damaged for the rest of their life: there is a real cost to the citizenship there in the form of health insurance costs, disability costs, medicare costs, etc. Add to that the overcrowding of facilities dealing with brain injury which would be better served caring for those that suffer from disability that is no fault of their own. dropping the helmet law would mean an increase in health care costs that all of us would have to ultimately pay. |

Bill...so why not make drivers & passengers in cars wear helmets too? Plenty of people would survive crashes...plenty of people would not suffer brain damage.

Well, it's been ten years since Portugal decriminalized posetion of small amounts of any and all drugs, and began to focus on treatment over caging (and killing) and cases of problematic addiction is now less than half what it was pre decrim. Drug use seems to be down, and drug related crime is down.
So, people are STILL supporting the "war on drugs?"

I am supporting education. Something you are lacking.
They have 10 million people. The United States? Oh roughly 35 times that. There is NOWHERE near enough data to make conclusions you are just jumping to.
