This summer I've been laying a red rope down on the ground around my pitch, and I've noticed something odd ... mostly during the downtime before or after my show while I'm standing in front of my pitch waiting to start the next show.
What I notice is people walking along and deliberately stepping one foot inside the rope circle ... is quiet amusing to me actually, I wonder why they feel they need to do so. I mean, are they like saying "how dare me try to tell them that this is my space" or something? My take on it is that they as deer wouldn't make it in the wild ... I mean, you see a circular piece of rope laying on the ground it usually means some hunter has laid down a trap and if you step in it the trap springs and you end up hanging upside down from a red rope. So has anyone else ever noticed this? Anyone else amused, or is it just me? lol -JoeJoe

I've had people stepping over my rope during my shows all week. Mostly kids though. And then they ask me what the rope is for. lol. I find it amusing and I've been telling the kids that the rope is for little children who ask to many questions. lol.

I could also be a magical barrier to help keep the evil spirits away...

You could lay high-voltags wires in a puddle and they would still cross it.

Hey JoeJoe, nice hearing your story!,... I thought all the wierdos only watched MY Show! With me, when I´m playing the Piano; someone will inevitably, every Show, go "bing-bing", on one note, in the middle of a song. So,... as a joke, I put a mouse trap on each side of the Piano keyboard,... `live´,... no cheese. Once a day, every third Show, I get to smile as I hear the "clack!!!" Explain that!??!
Have a good one JoeJoe,... keep ropin´ `em in, gallagher. |

Haha! The mousetrap story is awesome.
And yes, I think it's a little bit of the "how dare you?" attitude, albeit expressed passive aggressively. -Travis |

I love that mouse trap idea! There are a lot of other things that immediately come to mind using that idea!

You could turn the rope into an ACTUAL spring trap! That'd teach the putz's.

Greetings and Salutations,
I'm regularly asked about my "Red Line of Death, Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!" Said for dramatic/comedic effect. I get lots of kids who step over the line. However, I usually use my rope to gather an audience, telling them I need their help to do a magic trick. When I have people all along the line holding the rope, and shaped up into the a nice semi-circle, I tell them the trick was a success! With a piece of rope and 12 to 18 strangers I have created an audience! And then tell them they need to put down the ... "Red ... Line ... of Death! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!" Hey, it works for me. YMMV. But, yes, I guess people to step over it, mostly young people -- teens, kids, and I play it off while finishing my crowd build. Joe Zeman aka The Mage Ulysses |

I would use a trap door if the problem becomes to serious.
