Bob Solari has just released a very cool new packet effect called Just Joking. Click here to see the video. http://bobsolarimagic.com/shop/index.php......t_id=462 This effect caught me off guard when I first saw it and fooled me for sure. As always Bob offers a great value with the 12.95 price tag. I have been getting great reactions with this, and highly recommend it!

While Bob does offer some great effects, this is not one of them.

I have to agree with bblumen,i like most of bob's stuff but from the video anyone with a little knowledge of cards would'nt need to buy this.

If you are getting great reactions then it was definatly worth it. Sometimes the best way to learn slights is in small doses, like a packet trick.

I would certainly not call this a dog. Every time I show this to people I get a strong reaction.

Although I have been doing an effect similar to this for years,it is basically an identical handling. As a restaurant owner I have the opportunity to perform for lay audiences more than most of the Magic Café "experts" who seem to know what works and what doesn't. This is a great effect due to it's simplicity and easy to follow plot.I agree that it lacks a multiple phase of knucklebusting sleights and clever patter lines...the type of effects that are fun to share with magic club members or to show off with on You-tube,but if you have any background in real world performances, this routine is a crowd pleaser.

Well stated Rocky.
I looked at the video of it and thought it was pretty basic. Then I go and do his trick using three different colored Sharpies where you can deteremine which one they give you behind your back...and people are floored. It seems so simple, almost simplistic, but people cannot figure it out and they enjoy it! It gets laughs and lots of second-guessers, but people have fun if you do it right. So a simple card trick to some of us is a stunner to many people. I think Bob's magic works many times because it is not showy or pretentious. Look at Hell Bent...are you kidding me? It looks waaaayyyy to simple, but people's reactions show THEY are mystified, and they enjoy it. Myself, I am so guilty of judging something thru my jaded eyes, Bob is a breath of fresh air. |

We tend toi think too much like magicians, rather than entertainers. Our job is to "wow" the lay audience...NOT other magicians. They, frankly, don't give a rip about sleights, knucklebusting, etc. All they care about is being mystified.
This looks like it will do the trick. Pun intended.
