I just got this from Vanishing Inc. as I'm getting into mem deck work and I'm really not finding anything I'm interested in...anyone read this yet, and what's your feedback or favorite routines? I am working with the Aronson Stack and wanted something to supplement his writing. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you want some knock out mem deck effects I would reccommend you search for:-
Challenge Mind Reading from Richard Osterlind Zen Master from Darwin Ortiz Past, Present and Future, Birthday book effect using the aronson stack and Everybody's Lazy by Simon Aronson Luckiest Cards in Vegas and his take on an ungimmicked invisible deck by Michael Close The Smiling Mule - Darwin Ortiz, Michael Close and Michael Vincent have their own take on this effect using a mem deck Messy - a trimph effect where the cards look legitimately shuffled that gets you into mem deck order by the end of the effect Total Coincidence by Juan Tamariz. Not a pure mem deck effect by does rely on a stack A quick search on google will quickly tell you which book these routines and effects are in. A big motivation for you to learn a mem stack should be the open index principle. You basically have control of every card cause you know the location of them within the deck. Also be motivated that rather than doing pick a card tricks, you will now be able to do name a card tricks, which from a spectators point of view is much more powerful. Other things to work on once you have mastered the mem deck is:- -To have a handful of different false shuffles and cuts, as a mem deck is only convincing if the spectators acknowledge that the deck is in a random order -Perect the faro shuffle as mem deck work go hand in hand -Practice on estimation - being able to cut to or near to any card you want. This will take a lot of practice Learning a mem deck is probably the best tools I have learnt in magic as it opens up so many possiblities |

I think that the story trick: "The Legend of Southside Johnny" done with the Aronson Stack and explained in Oasis is marvelous. Since I almost always have a deck in Aronson stack order with me, it's great that I can do a routine similar to the great "Sam the Bellhop" with my working deck.
By itself, this is worth a modest cost of the book download, in my opinion. Dennis Loomis

I've to second Denis; I think it's a wonderful work for almost no money (160 pages!). Jan

I know this is an old post, but I am wondering if the stack itself is taught in Oasis. I am unable to purchase any of Simon's books right now, but I can purchase e-books. I have not found any that actually teach his stack. I am hoping that this one does.
Thanks Kingman |

Kingman, Simon Aronson offers a book on his site that teaches the stack for free! Check out his Memorized Deck Area, as well as other free memorized deck goodies here.

The OP might be disappointed because the book doesn´t have anything to do with memorization, so it has almost nothing to do with "memdeck" work. It´s all about things you can do with the aronson stack, without needing to memorize the order. It´s a great book if you know that going into it, but I can also see how it wouldn´t fit someone´s expectations if they thought it was memdeck work.

Jvickers, EXACTLY! Using a stack is not memorized deck work! A stack can allow some nice effects, especially Aronson's stack, but the GOOD STUFF is the memorized deck work.

If you wish to learn the story effect, Southside Johnny it will be VERY helpful if you have the Aronson Stack memorized.
To put that another way: if you don't know the Aronson Stack, then learning the story of Southside Johnny is one way to learn the stack, especially the first 27 cards of the story. Dennis Loomis
