I've been working on this routine for a while now and keep on adding little details here and there that I think make it more convincing. However, I still haven't struck upon a very good plot. Any suggestions would be very gratefully received! Possible ideas could be an out of control deck, a misremembered trick where I keep changing things as I go along, or a metaphorical story represented by cards, but I have been unable to flesh any of these ideas out properly. Anyway, here is the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Guh-c_MCo A couple of notes on the video... After the second big change, I usually show that the face card (in this card the Ace of diamonds) is still on the bottom (which it is), but I forgot to do it for this video. Also, I usually continue to spread down to the very last card (or apparently do so, anyway!) to show that every single card has changed, but once again forgot to do so for this video. Those little touches help make it more convincing. Also, there is a moment near the beginning where the deck is obscured by the spectator's card being shown to the camera. While there IS a move going on at that time, it isn't necessary to have the deck obscured, it just happened that way in this video. Finally, I end ALMOST clean. Without giving too much away, after I spread the cards at the end, the deck is completely examinable, however it would be good if someone could suggest a good reason to go back into my pocket! Anyway, enjoy, and any and all advice is welcomed! Finally, if anyone would like a tutorial on this then please ask. Ben |

Not a bad routine,

At the end take the pen back from the spectator as you hand them the deck. As you place the pen back in your pocket can you do the needed clean up? Personally, I would not give them the deck to examine it following the effect. Rather I would give them the deck and ask them to shuffle it as part of the next effect. It is a subtle difference but I never ask spectators to examine items. I do incorporate opportunities for spectators to handle the items used in my effects, but never with the sole purpose of examining them. There is no need to examine the items I use in my effects because they are always just "every day items".
The effect you performed is great. I really enjoyed it. |

Nice- I like it very much.
In the begining you take your deck out of a blue Bicycle case and start the trick-its old but it works. |

How about this for a plot? Have you seen the new 21st Century TV Magic Cards?
Watching the trick reminded me a little of Marshall Brodien's TV Magic Cards commercial from the 70's. Hence the idea for the plot. The nice thing of course is that in this case you end clean with a regular deck of cards. If I went this route, I would perform the routine tongue in cheek. Glenn

You can also use a plot of changing seasons and leaf changing (in autumn)/caterpillar to butterfly.
Can a leopard really change its spots? Ambiguity of life such that you can always anticipate or expect things to happen as they always have . . . but sometimes things surprise you. Things get turned upside down . . . and even when we can rely on ourselves and our signature as our bond, sometimes things out of our control completely change in direction, or even COLOR.

Thanks for the responses so far, I'm planning on putting up a private explanation video tomorrow, and anyone who is interested can PM me. All I ask is that if you do watch the video, please try the routine out and give any suggestions you might have.
Thanks, Ben |

Ben -- I think your routine is very effective -- maybe tie it to some sort of audience mass hypnosis type demo; I especially like the fact that there are three related outcomes that occur in a fairly short timespan -- this could be a great opener -- nice job!
