Runeflax ,
As an owner of the book , do you think you received value for money ? For me, the price of the book would mean that having read the detailed effect description and seperating out the marketing words, could I not produce a similar effect using the basic building blocks of mentalism or magic in under an hour ..OK in this case 10 minutes . It's the type of idea you could read up as an effect in Genii and think , nice idea got my money's worth buying the mag this week , rather than WOW this should be sold for over £100 this month because of that one idea. Then again I am judging value by what else I could purchase for that sum of money . Andy |

I don't own this book, so can't comment usefully on the idea/effect/method being sold. I do know Kennedy (he attended a workshop I recently gave), and think he's a bright, creative guy with good ideas. I also know that my friend Neal Scryer has seen this work, and likes it; Neal doesn't bestow praise lightly (his comments are more likely to be sprinkled with four-letter words, of which "crap" is prominent), so that's a good sign.
I can comment, though, on the value of the book, because it's the same as the value of anything. It's like beauty (that thing found in the eye of beholders): one person can't do a reliable job of reporting it to another person. The value of anything is what it's worth to you, not to others. I recently returned from the annual PEA convention, the Meeting Of The Minds. While there, I learned an item in a lecture that is worth many thousands of dollars to me. Some others who attended the same lecture, all very experienced, skilled mentalists, didn't even take notes. So if a price were to be placed on this piece (were it ever to be sold, which is extremely unlikely), what should it be? $30? $50? $100? $1000? More? It's impossible to say, based on value. Items intended for sale are priced for business/marketing reasons, not for "value" reasons. Quibbling about the value of an item isn't worthy of a busy person's time. Buy it if you want; don't buy it if you don't want. Complain that you can't afford it, if you must. But don't tell me whether or not you think it's "worth" it to me. I won't believe it, because experience has show me that only I can be the judge of that (even if the recommenders are respected peers). No experienced, capable mentalist needs to buy any new books (even mine, which are all terrific). We buy such things to satisfy our curiosity, and in the constant search for useful new ideas (which, candidly, are pretty rare). Some entertainers earn more than others, and can thus indulge this pleasure more freely. But those who can't aren't missing all that much, and would almost certainly be better served spending their time in improving their art, not collecting secrets.

It's a solid routine with a simple but workable method.
If you are a working pro, like the effect and want to put this in your act, you probably won't be disappointed. However, after reading the book you won't be able to read minds for real, neither will your spectators. Whisper won't make you famous, it won't make you rich and if your act sucks now, buying the book won't help either... If you are in doubt, don't buy it. It's as simple as that. It certainly is too expensive to let it sit on your shelf and collect dust... |

I know Kennedy is very bright and would love to buy his book but in the Texas summer heat my air-conditioning bill comes first. Hopefully in the next few months I can afford to take the plunge. Now, your books I can afford.
