I'm going to be interviewed on a local TV news show about my mentalism show. I'd like to get some ideas for a quick, hard-hitting mentalism effect I can use in this situation. I've done a search but, haven't found any ideas on the Café. Yes, I have ideas of my own but, am always looking for good ideas.
Your help is appreciated. Ted

Begin your interview by getting them to draw a picture. explain that as the interview goes on the will "give away/subconcious communicate/you will intuit" things about the drawing then at the end of the interview reveal what it is they have drawn.
You will be surprised, I have done this during conversations (not on tv of course) and it is surprising how many connections you can come up between things they say and the drawing they are trying not to give away during a 15 min chat. Just re label them as tells as you go through. Participants seem to find this type of thing fascinating. for more info I believe there is an essay on this in Suggestabilities by Dr Bill regarding word reveals and alphabets.
I no longer smoke camel cigarettes.

Direct mind reading on air.
Take advantage of the d--l r-----y of the medium of television. Tell the presenter you are going to read her mind on air. Before going on air Ask her to write it down to fix in her mind what she's going to say. Then on air when you ask her to think of say, someone close to her, it will look to the audience at home like pure mind reading when you tell her what she 'only' thought of. Good luck Sean |

What I explained is exactly what the interviewer would see. No more. Now the fact that you've now told every lay person that reads my post that a method is revealed there? That's a problem of you're making! |

I've used pre-show quite a bit for radio and TV, a good phrase to use is;
"If you could write down the name of someone now, when I come to ask you later on, we can cut out your thought process and the writing down procedure on air, it'll get rid of all the dead time and maximize the time we have in front of the cameras!" Best, DC

Dee, I like this idea a lot. It gives a reason to do it in advance that they will identify with. I may use this.
But, I'm still looking for ideas. Ted
