Yes, you can do that. I attached my Kindle3 to my laptop via its USB connection and just dragged and dropped my pdfs over. No problem.

I thought about purchasing a tablet for eReading. Does anyone have an Android tablet they find suitable for reading PDFs? I know quite a few people are going the iPad route, but I would prefer having an Android tablet.

Having both a Kindle and an iPad I can state my strong preference for the iPad for magic/mentalism texts. The biggest reasons are that navigation is much easier on the iPad and it is much better at handling notes, highlighting, annotations, etc. The Kindle, by contrast, is not very good at navigating to different parts of documents efficiently and the notation and highlighting features are primitive by comparison.
If most of your reading is linear where you read from beginning to end and don't skip around at all (most common with works of fiction, biographies, etc.) then the Kindle is definitely preferable. You can read on one for hours without any eye strain and the battery life lasts for weeks one a single charge. Plus you can read in direct sunlight (something you can NOT do on an iPad). However, when I read these books for a second and third time (as we often do) I like to look at my comments and highlights and revisit specific passages again. So for me, reading .pdf documents on an iPad is pure joy. On the Kindle it seems like so much effort. Buying standard books, however, I always use my Kindle account. The nice thing about this is that I also have a Kindle app on my iPad so I can read my Amazon books on either device.

Your Kindle is tied to a special email address. Attach a Pdf to a blank email and address it to that special address. Set the Subject line to "Convert". Then send the email. Amazon will convert the file to a Kindle file and deliver it to your Kindle. Quick and easy. You can find the special address inside your Amazon account.

As I said on the previous page, converting a pdf to any other format is very hit and miss. I now have a Kindle Voyage which isn't too bad for reading pdfs directly, but any with lots of small print or diagrams will be too uncomfortable to read. You really need a tablet of at least 10" to read a pdf like that.

Have you tried the convert service I referred to? Once the book is in Kindle mode you make the.don't whatever you want. The hit and miss aspect is more a product of who formatted the source but we don't have any.control over that unfortunately. |

Yes, it's a question of how the original pdf was formatted. The ones in my library vary a lot. I wish authors would think of that when they issue books in pdf form.
I've tried various ways to convert pdfs. They all work equally well or badly depending on the way the book was formatted. I use Calibre to keep my library under control; that includes conversion facilities. |
