We have talked about the benefits of offering free shows in this forum. I wanted to post a real-world example of how we as entertainers can benefit.
As I posted way back in May, I perform for free at an annual charity show to help raise awareness of child abuse and neglect. I am part of a variety of acts that perform. Just this past week, I received an e-mail from a woman who was in attendance at that show asking me about availability and pricing to do a show to support adoption and foster care. As a result of "paying it forward", I will now have a paying gig...which can also lead to other paying gigs, etc.

I have recently moved to a different part of the UK, and doing a few free charity shows helps me pick up paying shows. To me it is a part of the advertising mix - and I feel good by helping out good causes.
