I was trying to think of a catchy title for my post, lol.
Max Maven has an effect on his Nothing DVD called the Disposable Color. Also in the Prism book. It's basically a prediction effect...but depending on how things go, the audience might not even see the effect happen. Hard to explain without giving it away. Plus I don't wanna say much about it because I don't want everyone doing it. Another example, (sort of), is Hector Chadwicks paper airplane chair test. However, this doesn't quite fit the category because the effect still happens no matter what. Can you guys think of any other effects out there that fall along these same lines? In other words, an effect that the audience may (or may not) see depending on the outcome? I love this type of stuff........ Daniel

You'll find a lot 'out' there.

I'm familiar with multiple outs, of course. If that's what you were talking about.
But this idea uses ONE single out, that may or may not happen. That's what makes it different. Anyone know anything other than what I've already mentioned. For example Derren Brown uses a queen of Hearts on the bottom of a lighter. If the spec names the card, he shows the lighter. If not, he continues to something else. However, I'm lookin for something formal like Max's routine. "Formal", is really the keyword here. Max describes it as formal also. D

This can be true of almost any effect, as long as he performer doesn't set it up in such a way that commit him - "now what I'd like to do is..." Then you're committed. But in reality it's only you that knows what you're doing and where you're going. This is something that many really overlook when presenting or designing an effect.
Many pros create effects that have this built in feature to have an out in many situations, or create a fork in the road offer two ways to proceed, one if things are going in the desired direction, and another if things are not going as needed and you chose to abort, go in another direction or change methods or directions on the fly. To me this is a safety feature that can be embedded in many effects. |

You're right it can be applied to a ton of things. But I'm having trouble brainstorming. I guess what I'm asking is if you know of anyone who has anything published using this idea? Would like to see what route they took it.
