I had been experimenting with an associate working some of my hot spots this summer and she hasn’t done as well as expected. I have learned that I do have to be there if I want to bring in the big money. Mark was right.
To upset Mark I will give a free lesson on pitching to anyone who cares to visit me at the Oregon or Puyallup fair during the weekdays in the morning with advance notice. |

Don't be so bloody stupid, Will. Don't give lessons to ANYBODY! You are supposed to be on a money trip, not an ego trip.
And of course I am right. Learn from my bitter experience. And you will notice that old misery Don Driver has never mentioned having anyone working for him either. He must have had the sense not to. David Walker and I had less sense. 85% of the time it ends in bloody disaster. It is terribly tempting to let other people do it on your behalf but it rarely works in the long run. The best chance of it working is if you are on the joint with the person but most of the time forget it. We are not all cut out to be Marvin Berglas or Geno Munari with a chain of venues where you pay the employees minimum wage and sit back and collect the money. It is not as easy as that even for those guys. It is tough as hell in fact. In the end you have to do it yourself, perhaps with a little help, or not do it at all. I have had disaster after disaster with people working for me. There are a tiny few people that are fine but most of them are not. I hated the work so tried to avoid it by getting people to share the burden, but in the end the burden was worse than it was before. And by having too many venues you burn up the territory faster and have less venues available to you in the long run. And you need to buy in more stock and pay out more money for venues. Simplify and solidify is my advice. I wish I had taken it myself. |

Mark, you have some good points. Do you even think anyone would take me up on the offer? I doubt it; and even if I did a lesson, it does not do any harm. You know as well as I do that it takes a special kind if they want to go full on. Maybe I am not concerned about money as much as you, as much as I like to make and spend it.
Thanks again for the info. For anyone else reading this: I am trying to get into some of the stock shows this coming winter. If anyone knows someone who has an indoor vendor booth for rent and 10 or 25 points, please let me know. |

So, are you performing at those fairs or is that on the back burner giving way to 100% pitch money with a wad to gag a horse?

Solar, I have semi-retired from performing. Unless I like the venue or I get my requested fee I much prefer to sell my wares. I’m off to Bermuda tonight to teach a magic camp for a week, but will be selling more or less for the near future. Thank you for your interest.
Also on a side note I will be looking for help in the Salt Lake area during the holiday season. |

Kinda, like one of those boot camps that are popping up lately...wait a second that might be a good idea....400.00 you can spend a whole day with me at the flea and I'll show you the in and outs... :goof: I agree Mark has added some spice to this place that was quiet for while except for Seth and Don. Plus, Mark is has provided some valuable info here.

It's a shame that Mark was banned. His posts were informative. I say bring him back!

Yes, some of his posts were informative. If you liked to hear him bully the others on here. He may be a intelligent man. The problem is, he acts like someone so grizzled and stupid that I, for one, just stopped posting. Except to bait him.
Bring him back? Do you want all the GOOD GUYS to leave, as they did when he was here? Jon |

No question that ML is a very intelligent and talented person.
However, as to his attitude and the tone of his posts, I think his posts pretty much speak for themselves. SETH
