"The Invisible card " by hmmm ..me
My contribution to the latest ebook by Ben Harris. The performer tells the spectator how as a child he would spend time with his friends playing scissors , paper , stone. The performer demonstrating visually the actions of the game, using the game to win sweets from the other children . That luck could not account for the number of wins but down to intuition which over time has been developed and refined . The performer offers the spectator a demonstration but rather than play a game with only three choices a game is played with an imaginary pack of cards. Linking into the previous demonstration of using the hands for scissors , paper stone , the spectator with his hands behind his back creates the value of a card .. Once the spectator can see the value in his mind a suit is attached to the value and the full image of the card is held in the spectators mind. The performer takes out of his pocket a deck of cards , with pocket space at a premium, this is an invisible deck (I do mean invisible deck not the one you buy from local magic store ) You mime the actions of shuffling the deck and handed it to the spectator to mix .. The spectator is now asked to spell his card mentally and deal one invisible card onto your hand for each letter . Having dealt the cards, the performer recaps "We have both shuffled this deck in a fair manner" "You have dealt a pile of cards onto my hand , stopping at a point based on the card you are thinking of, one of 52 possible cards" The performer takes hold of the top card of the invisible packet and holds it facing him . "This is your card " ... Naturally the spectator thinks you are having a laugh . Performer turns the face of the invisible card to the spectator and names his card . 100% spot on Card replaced in deck and put back into pocket. As an effect handy to have if one is naked on the beach and asked to perform.. No props at all , no pen , index cards or playing cards required. I would say this is not for the card guys , the focus here is on presenting skills and not finger flinging. Since I learn a lot from the Café .. Thought I would offer the first 10 people a copy of the effect for free. kind regards Andy |

In my opinion the question is what makes a good mentalisim effect?
Once you have the answer to this question there should be no problem finding the suitable mentalisim effect using cards. Sincerely yours, Jonathan |

Colin Mcleod's double card thought projection has always given me great reactions. Seems totally fair and impossible!

Have a look at LuluLemon in the latest Genii. Very interesting indeed. Mentalism or mental magic? Depends how you sell it.
