My good friend, the late Robin DeWitt (Kardor) and I once actually invented a great gospel magic trick.
It was called "Run Savior, Run!" Based on "Run Rabbit, Run," a door was on each side of an attractive plywood contraption. One represented a rock in front of a cave, and the other was a tree. A flat plywood Jesus was placed behind the cave door and the gospel magi pattered about the Resurrection. Just before the door is opened to show the kids that the Savior was gone, the kids (but not the magician!) see Jesus scurry across to the tree. When the cave door is opened the kids all scream merrily that Jesus is in the tree! But just before the magician opens the tree door, the kids all see Jesus run back to the cave! But, once again, the magi fails to notice! (This continues ad infinitum and is milked for all it's worth with good Gospel lines, like, "He passeth this way but once," etc.) Finally, for the grand finale, BOTH doors are opened and Jesus has vanished! The magician points out an attractive cloud cutout that is hanging from the ceiling. Opening the door on the cloud, there is Jesus, right next to his dad! (We tried to market this but it never caught on. ) |
