I wanted to ask this here as I guess its you guys that are going to really know.
In a month I may be going to france , depending on my Dads condition , because hes having a gap in his chemotherapy to recover from radio so I cant really buy tickets but I wanted to go to the Robert Houdin house and mueseum thing but I cant find it on the web. Does anyone know the website and where it is? And if its good? I guess it will be so that's kind of a stupid question but is a lot of the information kind of dumbed down or can magicians still enjoy it? Simon |

I have been there twice. I was kind of disappointed. Before I had visited I watched a video that showed all of these amazing pieces on display, what I didn't realize was the video had been shot at a collectors convention. When I went, very few pieces were in the museum. There is an area that felt like the childrens museum of science with some hands on displays of optical illusions. They had an hourly magic show. Kind of fun. If I remember correctly, they had on display an automaton of Robert-Houdins named the Bird Trainer and some personal effects. Maybe a clock or two. It is in the town of Blois. South of Paris in the Loire Valley. He is buried in the graveyard in town. Nice monument. I guess the best thing about the museum are the big dragons that come out the windows on the hour.

Hi,
I guess if you are a big enough fan of Robert-Houdins. There are some personal pieces of his and a few clocks, but not really any of his bigger well known pieces. The thing that would concern me now is, I was told more than a few of the pieces that were inside belonged to Christian Fechner and since he passed, you have to wonder..did they take those pieces out or possibly the museum acquired a few more pieces from the estate. If they added more pieces, I would say yes it is worth going to see, but if it is the same now as is was then, I know I wouldn't go back. Or at least not make a special trip to the museum. It is a pretty town. As far as the magic show goes, it wasn't anything spectaculer, but it was alright. No loud noise and I don't remember much speaking by the performers. I guess I would base my decision on how far out of the way is it to go see. There is another Magic museum in Paris. It is a small one, but a few nice pieces there. I am not sure where you are located, but I live in the US and I know for me to travel back to Blois to see it...I would pass. I know there are a few post on YouTube in English that might help you to decide. Good luck! |

Ok, Seems like if you havent been its worth going, but not really something you would return to. If we go to france I will probably ask to go.

Hello !
In France, we really have no museum of the magic. I went there never (sorry for my english). But the friends who went were often disappointed by la Maison de la Magie. In Paris, you also have a museum of the magic. I went there. It is very disappointing (http://www.museedelamagie.com/) Petitbonhomme |
