When I first received the trick I was disappointed by the gimmick. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't I received for 30 bucks. Of course that feeling of disappointment quickly went away and turned into joy when I realized how easy and quickly it is to set up. Best part is that you probably have all of the supplies at home. Having purchased tagged (which is a similar effect), this one blows it out of the water.
The reactions I've had from this trick have been great! I still need to work on the technique a little bit more because sometimes the prediction doesn't show up clearly, but that's my fault. While it's a great effect and all, I do feel that it's a bit expensive for what it is. I think it's more of a 20 dollar trick than 30, because the gimmick that comes with the DVD isn't anything super expense that you couldn't get yourself. But hey, that's just me being stingy I guess. I'd also like to add that the video quality is really good, but that's been my experience with all of the papercrane dvds. In conclusion I'd give this effect a 9/10. Not a perfect 10 because of the price, but again, that's just me being cheap. Hope this review helps and I totally recommend this effect. Cheers. |

Thanks for the review. I have Tagged and while I find many of th ideas on the DVD great, it's never been something I wanted to carry around. I may have to check out Note.

Would you say ( without giving much away) that note is easier to carry than tagged?

I'd be curious to see what crediting these is in Note... methods, effects, history. I have not seen it but do know that many, many years ago the creator saw my performance of Tagged on the news via YouTube and we chatted back then about his excitement and "discovery" of this idea. At that time, it was clear that it (what soon became called tagged) was not his invention but rather something he saw someone else do. I believe there is an old thread somewhere about this. I'm assuming that Note is what I think it is... the straight forward impromptu version of Tagged which was not included in our DVD as we focused on forces as the approach. Again, this is just a guess and I'd like to know more if anyone knows for certain. I'll try to contact the producer as well. If it is an entirely different thing that I'm thinking it is, wonderful. Otherwise, I'd be a little surprised... especially after the bashing I've been getting lately. Sorry to otherwise distract from this thread. It was simply brought to my attention again via facebook just moments ago. As far as any specific details about the business, gimmicks, etc I'll leave that appropriately handled in a PM between the parties it pertains to... once I learn more and verify the facts. Have fun. Be kind.

Ah, discovered a thread with some good conversation which sort of address some issues: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......start=30
Seems like I'll have to find the old email as well. Cheers. I'll contact the creator personally and discuss this history.

Rich, Matt Sconce has done nothing wrong:
In 2008, I was doing a word to arm effect frequently and submitted my effect "Note" (Called "Whisper" at the time) to Ellusionist to see if they wanted to release it. I received no response, so I continued to use it and practice the effect that is now called "Note". A few months later, I saw Rich Ferguson was coming to the market with an effect called "Tagged" through Ellusionist. I had been discussing releasing my effect with Paper Crane Magic so, to not step on anyone's toes, I called Rich to talk about Tagged and make sure I was not releasing the same thing he was. We spoke on the phone and I told him my method for "Note". He said he was releasing a similar virtually impromptu method (with one element different than my method for "Note") along with the main method for "Tagged" on the DVD so, out of respect, I called Paper Crane and told them we would not move forward with my effect. I did not want to battle the market with a very similar effect if they were very similar in method to not detract from the profitability of Rich's "Tagged". After "Tagged" released I saw the virtually impromptu method was never released on the DVD. I have waited 4 years to make sure I gave "Tagged" its run and not step on toes or the profitability of Rich's effect, and now I felt I could finally release "Note". It is getting great response and I am glad it can finally see the light of day. It is just one more tool we can use to create magic. I am very excited about it and hope people get a lot of it. -Matt Sconce |

Thanks insight.
My point is that where did the inspiration or development of NOTE AKA Whisper come from in the first place? That was left out of the conversation. It's the entire point at hand. I'm surprised this specific point has been so easily brushed by or missed as if that part of creation does not have any bearing. Matt and I spoke MANY years ago and he had told me directly that he saw a clip of mine. When he was interested in producing a DVD on this idea, I remember it being pretty clear that he recognized that not only was I far past filming and waiting for Ellusionist to come out with it, but that he clearly saw and reversed engineered something exciting he saw me do on YouTube that he found highly interesting. A few others had emailed as well over a couple years prior. At the time, I had felt that he recognized that he did not really "come up with" this at all. I was under the impression that he would not produce it more because of THAT fact rather than whatever method(s), devices, setups, etc would be in or not be in our final DVD. So was NOTE independently created. It appears not the case. Was it "tweaked" in his own way. I suppose so. I'm just a little surprised to see this come out being that it was not a coincidence of duplicate invention but directly watched and copied as far as I remember our conversations. Perhaps I'm missing something.
