Quote: Here's the problem as I see it, Billy. It really doesn't matter if your position on the matter is right or wrong - so I won't even address that aspect. What really matters is what others feel about exposure on this forum. THAT is the ultimate concern. Even if your argument were right, what on earth does it matter, if the people who can REALLY help in moving the art forward decide to stop participating on the Café because THEY (and that includes me) don't like the exposure or don't agree with your position?

Also, if that person is savoy enough to google 1 a(((d then they really have half the battle one. So, Billy, does your being right about exposure outweigh the possible loss of valued members like Cassidy, Banachek, Maven, Osterlind and the many others who may stop or limit their contributions because of a nonchalant attitude about exposure? |

My favourite is Richard Osterlinds AI. Gotta get you over to Essex for a session like the old days John.
Edit: Just realised this is an old thread. Mark |

I wonder if the poster read the whole thread before resurrecting it and adding to it.

I just skimmed it but to be fair it was gone 4 in the morning and I had consumed a fair quantity of alcohol and mostly just noticed the original poster who is an old and dear friend.

I loathe the whole **** thing in that half the time I can't figure out what people are talking about (and I'm not exactly new to this business). BUT, there is an old saying about "When in Rome. . . " that seems more applicable; here, at the Café, the general rule of thumb is to keep the discussion of actual method, in the more private and protected regions of the forum. Nothing more need be said. . . I'd think. Thems the rules! But Then . . . anyone that has such a lackadaisical attitude when it comes to the responsibility of protecting secrets really shouldn't be on this kind of forum. I've had my share of differences when it comes to the Café but even I recognize that this is the Ft. Knox of on-line Magic when it comes to the treasure trove of insight by some of the industry's greatest minds that virtually anyone can access ONCE THEY HAVE THE PROPER CLEARANCE. A layman wouldn't be able to get through the requisite posting count as things stand; they simply don't have enough know how and as such, would be noticeable. Sure, anyone can do a search on the word Mentalism and in so doing find a long list of resources, even FREE one. But of those that actually pick-up a copy of Corinda or Annemann less than 1% will do anything with the information and most of them will simply decide to study and practice the craft vs. exposing things. I know that public access to such books in my youth is how I and other friends, managed to keep our dreams alive and the learning curve, a bit straighter than usual; all because the local library and at least two retail outlets, carried some of the latest materials on Magic. . . so yes, secrets are learnable, but only within some very limited parameters; the real secrets you rarely find in books but must earn by impressing the older vets. That's why Inner Secrets and such protected forums exist... at least, in part. |
