Hello everyone,
I am looking to put bizarre or seance magic in my repertoire, but I don't know exactly how to do it. I am not quite familiar with bizarre and seance magic. I am just beginning to understand what's behind. For now I don't have much reference (I do have Hauntique book as an example) but I know I need more details on this. What I am looking is to incorporate bizarre or seance magic into my existing repertoire but I don't know how to present it or what it means or if it is a good idea. If anyone can answer or give me some information to how I can do that : - My main repertoire is mentalism, pk and levitation. I wonder if it is possible to include bizarre magic inside my existing show, what's the best way to do it... or does it needs to be done seperately (and if so why ?) - Can I present bizarre or seance magic with a comedy twist, and if so is there any books/dvd on this ? - In what venues does bizarre magic takes place, who are the 'customers' for this type of show (corporate, personal venues, birthday parties, ...) ? - Is seance and bizarre the same thing ? Sorry if my questions are somewhat vague or in all directions, I am just looking to see if this can fit my repertoire or not. I like bizarre magic because it is 'different' and 'spooky', but I don't really want to do it by itself. Thanks for your consideration Magic Brain |

Brian,
Look through the last four pages of Spooky. You may find allot of answers to the questions you ask!

Mr. Brain,
Here are some answers to your questions: 1. Yes, you can include bizarre into your existing show. Much of bizarre is based on mentalism. The real focus of bizarre is to create a mood or a feel. 2. Yes, bizarre can be presented with a comedic twist. 3. You perform wherever you have an audience. You can create one. 4. No seance and bizarre are not the same, but they can be. I know a lot of these answers are vague but bizarre is a pretty big term that describes a lot of different approaches. I actually address this in my first podcast. They are free and you can get them on my website. I think the thing you need to figure out first is WHY you want to perform bizarre. What do you hope to gain from it? More importantly, what do you want your audience to gain from it? Once you know where you want to take your audience, you can start figuring out how to present your bizarre routines. |

MagicBrain,
Seek out a thread I created a few months ago, called "Beginners Guide to Bizarre." It'll point you in the right directions. Bizarre can be some heavy handed stuff, and it's best that you have a plan of attack before actually approaching it. The best advice I could give you, in regards to using the Magic Café, is to read as much of this forum as you can -- there's a lot of information and a wealth of experience to learn from. And the people here are always ready to lend a helping a hand. It's a fun group. Best of luck.

Hello Paul,
Thanks for the answer. Yes it is a good point that I overlooked to know WHY I want to perform bizarre/seance magic. I am not quite sure of the answer, so I will have to think about that. Because I don't see much bizarre magic performed, I am not quite sure what it is. What I saw from some performances of bizarre / seance is that there were into dark scenarios or only related to dead people or with a lot of talking without much 'magic'. I know that there should be more to it than that, so do you have any good books or dvd's suggestions on this subjects. Godzilla : Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the book 'Spooky' ? Thanks, Magic Brain |
