So, I've decided to build my own website. I've already planned out the basics of what I'd like, but I know close to nothing about actually doing it. I know there are folks who charge to build sites, but I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars. My idea is, I think, not overly complex. I'd like something simple but elegant, with not too many bells and whistles:
- the front page will provide a choice to go to a page dedicated to my academic work, or to my vent page - my academic page will be one page with a small pic, a brief description of my work and philosophy, and a link to my vita saved as a PDF doc - my vent page will have one or two pics, a description of my performing experience, a link to my acting resume saved as a PDF doc., and perhaps a link to videos (when I actually have them made) and some other vent-related sites I understand that companies like GoDaddy offer pretty cheap and use-friendly formats. Knowing that many of you have your own sites, can you recommend a good avenue? Thanks! |

I've been using Bravenet for longer than I can remember and have been satisfied with it;

You can buy hosting from a place like http://www.Powweb.com for $46 for the year. Don't buy any of their upgrades. It's quality hosting. You can install Wordpress on the server. It's included with the hosting and you can access it easily from the control panel once you sign up. Wordpress is the premiere blogging and web site platform. You can also look for free Wordpress templates (there are many) online to give you a head start of building the site. The interface to build pages and customize the site are pretty simple.
Hope that helps. I just finished building my site on Wordpress. Mine is way more complex. I built a custom template you won't do that but you can customize an already built theme pretty easily. You can see my site at http://www.KidShowFun.com Powweb has pretty good customer service too and they can help you. Plus there are a million Wordpress tutorials online. Jimmy |

Thank you, CaptKirk! I actually have been tweaking it this week, and I am happier with its newest incarnation.
I have created my site simply to highlight info about myself and my work in education and in vent as my side gig. It is NOT to market my act and try to solicit work. |

Keith,
when I'm rich and famous, I'll be able to do the same, until then, it's back to work. :) |
