I' don't know if it the right place of the forum but I need to know the value of a genuine 3rd edition of Hugard&Braue Expert Card Technique. The copy I've shows the signs of the times but is in acceptable to good conditions: tight binding and has a paper (original) dust-cover which is torn on the back and spine. Please, let me know. Thank You.

There are not that many serious collectors of magic books. Most magicians buy books for the information they contain, so the value of a magic book tends to depend on two things.
1) How rare is that particular edition? Expert Card Technique was mass produced by Faber and Faber for the general public so it is not rare. 2) Can an alternative edition of the book be bought more cheaply? Max Maven's Color Books of Mentalism used to go for around $1000, until the same material was republished as Prism and became readily available for less than $30. If you tried to sell a set of the originals now, I doubt you would get 10% of the price they were going for before Prism was published. Expert Card Technique can be bought very cheaply in the modern editions, although these are reprints of an earlier edition without the Dai Vernon chapter, so that would increase the value of your 3rd edition a little. Lybrary.com sell an ebook of the third edition for $6, though. An online shop is currently advertising an original copy of the 3rd edition for £30 (about $47). That, remember, is just the price they are asking for it - not a price that someone has actually paid - so I expect it wouldn't be too difficult to find one for a lot less. |
