I know this is harsch, but I'm sincere. Why?
Ohh just in case of not that you think of me that I don't care, I don't drink coca-cola because they invented Fanta so they could keep making money out of germany during the war, IBM delivered the apparatus so they could classify the jews during the war, the number-code was ibm's. So I do care. But I'm just asking. |

I would think It's most likely because the majority of people persecuted
during the witch trials have no living relatives to be offended on their behalf... It also occurred during and before the 1700's and for the most part is only a distant memory. Whereas The Jewish persecution was modern mans doing. Also Germany lost the war. Had they won, perhaps it would be fashionable to make jokes and sporting jest of Jews. It is the victor who writes history after all. Also, you would be surprised to find how many people believe that witches indeed existed as portrayed in medieval literature. Depicted as someone who was actually in commerce with the Devil himself. You might enjoy Montague Summers' "The history of witchcraft and demonology". |

I have read Gerald Gardners work on witchraft. And I have seen documentaries on how the people in the holocaust got killed but my point is, "witches" are still being prosecuted, it's not a thing that has vanished. In Africa (saw it in a documentary) children are being killed because their family died at some strange cause and that makes them witches.
I have already practices wicca for 3 years now, and I'm still a practitioner. I couldn't do any witchcraft-prosecution-ritual-trick. I just couldn't. I don't think it's moral. I don't know any of the witches that died, but I keep in mind the things that happened during WWII, and I wouldn't think it's funny if someone did a magic effect about the holocaust. I must say that I come from a country (Belgium) where people still "celebrate" the witchhunts through folkloristic feasts. |

Talking about witches...and because I like to know other peoples beliefs and also I have methods to learn what people really thinking about a few of my experiments...Believe it or not I found out that many people out there, even doctors, lawyers, etc, believe that everything I do is by using devil powers and that I am a witch...well,for me this means that I do very well what I am doing ...but if you see me burn sometime then you know the reason!!!But of course I will be back from the dead and haunt them!By the way I live and travel a lot in Europe...ok I have a couple of very strong effects that are very close to real magick...but again people still believe and sometimes is very dangerous...

People can be vicious.
Consider the blood sports, or even their human equivalents found in the gladiators arena. What is significantly different between doing a magical effect wherein you speak of one person who died, and when you speak about many people who died? Both are tragedies, but why is one acceptable and not the other? In my opinion the difference can be found in the individual. Whats right for one person is not always right for another. I don't believe there is a universal guideline for deciding which effects are permissible and which are not. Just like morals, people pick and choose which ones they will apply when convenient and applicable to the situation at hand. I live in the southern part of the US, and many people think what I do is witchcraft, and like you 1908, I take it as a compliment lol. If any of us ever get hanged or burned, we all know what happened don't we. |
