I could be Dr Bob!
The book is pink and hang down between your legs and it is written by the Great Sebastiano. Rhymes with rollocks. Regards Dr Rob. |

You mean the Book of Magic Bo||ocks?
I have had some very kind words from some of the first wave of readers. Nobody has trolled me with death threats yet, although that can only be a matter of time; as posited in the book, all magicians are ******s ;-) |

I have read the book now. Overall, it is more of a beginners book, although most people stand to pick up a tip or two from it.
Having said that, I'm not sure this should be classified as a beginners / theory / autobiographical book... its more just a book of b.......! Negatives - hard to critique a book that professes to contain a load of b....... It could be accused of lacking substance! Positives - Reasonably irreverant and fun to read. A few interesting bits of businness / tips. Who would this suit? - Any magician that fancies an 'informed' laugh. Any newbie that wants to learn but would struggle with 'real' books (sense of humour essential)! Overall - This won't threaten Carneycopia, Stand up comedy magic, Ortiz etc. but I'm glad I picked it up. Recommended. |

Got this yesterday and I haven't put it down since.
What can I say about it? In a nutshell...........GROUND BREAKING! Whilst it is aimed at anyone that wants a good grounding in starting out in magic, it should NOT be confused with a book to give your 5 year old nephew. It doesn't contain the 21 card trick or having a matchbox that rattles hidden up your sleeve. This is a book that contains detailed info on passes, top changes, palming techniques, second deals for the real world, etc. A book for beginners? Maybe. A book that even seasoned pro's can learn from? Most definitely. In fact, study just the card sections and you will have more commercial material than some poor sod that has spent the last ten years of his life studying the five volumes of Card College. The book also covers coins, Thumb Tips (including a nice commercial banknote change) and other odds a sods with e.g. Sponge Balls, a note in cup PK Ring routine, cut and restored string, etc. The Great Sebastiano also gives some excellent advice on working professionally, tips on practicing, etc. Along with this, he gives a lot of opinions on magic generally - all of which I agree with. If this book was truly intended to be a beginner's book, then all I can say is that I wish I'd have had a copy in 1978 - I'd have saved a small fortune! Basically, I think the best way of summing this book up would be by comparing The Great Sebastiano to a swimming coach. He wouldn't let you start out in the paddling pool, nor the shallow end of the main pool. You'd have no life-jacket either for the deep end. You'd get pushed in and learn the basics to survive pretty quickly. He'd then drag you out, take you to the top diving board and push you off the edge - knowing you had achieved the RELEVANT expertise to become a pretty efficient swimmer immediately. I only wish that more blokes into buying the latest one trick DVD's and 'prop dross' would buy this book instead; and take on board the pearls of wisdom within. It is material with cards, coins, a thumb tip, a few sponge balls and a PK Ring that is all you need to earn a living with magic commercially. What's more, magic itself would benefit. Okay, I'm going to end this review with the following. After 34 years of reading countless magic books, this is potentially (how I feel at the mo anyway) the BEST magic book that it's EVER been my pleasure to study. UNRESERVEDLY RECOMMENDED
