Thanks Bats .. so I should take the plunge as a "first-time koran-principle" user? Which is much different than svengeli?

Okay .. took the plunge. Based on what I've read I think my preferred handling will be to rubber the band pack after "my" shuffle than hand it to them. As always the specs will say "Okay lemme see them there cards magic man", then I may be in some hot water I assume.

I think so, Mag1cian. The way I use a Koran Deck (and the way that I believe it is meant to be used- I cannot exactly remember the ways that Nate offers its use), is to be very fair and turn the cards over one by one (face up), and allow the spectator to stop you at any card. It all seems so very FAIR, but, of course, it isn't! You will then pull out a matching card from your (special) wallet or pocket. While I have not used this in a while, it never failed to floor my spectators! This conversation is going to make me get out a deck and start using it again!
I have never allowed anyone to (overhand) shuffle (I can't really remember how exactly that would work, because there would be issues with that, although I'm sure that Nate explains it), so the deck would really need to be switched in- at least that's what I always did. But the method is easy and the reactions will make you grin from ear-to-ear! |

This is NOT the Koran Deck.
Someone mentioned that and that is just wrong. Not even similar. : ) Also if you are worried about having someone grab the deck the answer is audience management. that's like saying "what if they grab the thumb tip off my thumb? And that is a lecture in itself. All the best, Kranzo

Well, I do have this and what I remember about it was that it was a Koran deck. I'll have to pull it out again and look at it. My apologies if I was wrong!

I just pulled it out and, of course, I am wrong and Nate is correct. It is more like a combination of a Svengali deck and Get Sharky. But the Psychomatic deck pulls back to reveal the card, and Get Sharky pulls forward to reveal the card. Get Sharky offers 6 different card choices, the Psychomatic deck offers one. Get Sharky can be handed out to your spectators to examine, in my opinion the Psychomatic deck cannot. Two normal thickness cards glued together will not pass muster. That's why it never got used by me. I own Get Sharky also, and it wins by a country mile. Get Sharky is a lot more expensive, though.
I did buy another marketed trick a year or two ago, and it turned out to just be a Koran deck under a different name. This was not that trick. My memory ain't what it used to be. Sorry if I misled you, Mag1cian. I did not mean to do it! |

No Problem BATS! Thank you very much for your PM regarding what Koran decks are. Very informative. I picked up the psychomatic deck anyways and it will be my first Kranzo purchase. If I like it he will have gained a loyal customer. Im definitely not worried about spec's "grabbing the deck out of my hand per se". Just the usual "mind if I see the cards your using"? There's only so much audience management you can use to dance around the question. Instead I just use good ol' fashioned sleight (lightning fast deck switch). Examination is just as important to me as the climax of the effect.

If anybody had a problem with BATS message, know that he revealed no secrets regarding the koran deck, he just very carefully and professionally outlined a few things for me. I will now be investing in these decks whereas I would not have if BATS hadn't cleared a few "non-revealing" points to me. This is not his first rodeo. He knows how to explain without revealing, as seen by posters in almost every forum here. We should be thanking BATS for taking the time as my hard earned money will be given to the magic community now and it would not have been had he not helped out. Thanks again BATS. You've still ensured that the KORAN is a huge mystery to me and I respect that!

Well, just received my deck and all I can say is if you have no audience management skills then keep your money. I happen to have quite a bit so this was for me. I ordered this and photosynthesis at the same time so when they arrived I learned them both simultaneuosly, walked down to the mall for a test run and my ears are still ringing from the screams! I allowed them to shuffle, pick their card (I never handled the cards), sign it and long story short, I palm it and do a quick deck switch. I then reach into my bag and get an old camera that I intentionally left open (for the dirty work) and try and take a picture and say "Hmm, must be busted. The weird guy who sold me this said it was haunted .. I thought he was an idiot until I tried something one day". Place it in their hand, have them rub it and boom .. their signed card shows up! I love how the psychomatic deck allowed the spectator full control in choice. SHuffled and all! I will be using it for many differnt revelations, mentalism effects, etc. Wonderful magic!

I have this deck and I am not dissapointed. There are many ways to use it, some requiring more audience management and others requiring less. I didn't have a deck like this before, so I can appreciate the possibilities. In fact, if you get it, you might come up with a way to reveal two or even three cards. You would need to create a modified version of the deck, but could be done. In fact, I think it would be a lot of fun to have a deck with two revealed cards and use a split card reveal. I'm really liking this. I do have one teeny tiny suggestion: It would be nice to have a regular force card in the deck in case you want to pull the reveal card out of the deck and hand it out. I could take the card from another deck, but it would have been just as easy for the deck to come that way.
All in all, I like it. Thanks, Nate. |

One more thing, Nate illustrates how you could make a deck using blank cards with people's names written on them. Many strong ideas come to mind using other applications of this. I think a good way to review an effect is to ask "Now that I know how this works, would I buy it?" For me, the answer is "yes, it was worth the money to learn some interesting new things."

I finally decided to pick this De know up a few weeks ago and it wish it had gotten it sooner. The reactions that I have been getting are great. It is very adaptable to many presentations. All you have to do is decide on how you want to reveal the chosen card. I am very happy with this deck.

This is strongly based off of the Siamese Svengali deck (Lu Brent) pg 254 of the Encyclopedia of Card Tricks - also marketed as the Telematic Deck (1946) I bought this because it is the "tossed out deck" that Luke Jermay uses as his "extended tossed out deck" in Jermay's mind as well as the Bob Cassidy Mental Miracles DVD. This is a strong worker and with Jermay's and Cassidy's endorsement - how can you go wrong?
