Any suggestions on how to avoid the phase when there are only two cards 'in play'? I always felt that that part is the most awkward phase - you put the Queen in your pocket and suddenly it appears again in your hand. At the same time, you need it to switch in to the next phase... Any thoughts?

The holding the 2 cards face down I say something like 'give the cards a rub' whilst giving them a little rub then turn the top card face up to reveal the Queen in your other hand. Then without missing a beat I bring the next 4 of Spades immediately back into play and continue with the routine.

Nowadays I often get people who thinks the Q is in the pocket already on the first phase with just one card. Kind of messes up the original script but it's a better opener with some laughs so I'm now trying to "hint" by looking at my pocket just to get it.

Picked this up last month and looking very forward to working with it. I did purchase the "Blammo" monte years ago and could never get into it, even after several attempts. Garrett's routine seems much more logical and straight-forward, imo.

It really only has one flaw, it's not examinable. But that's not a big problem at all. I think there are better, examinable 3 card monte effects but for 'stand up' situations this is unbeatable. I always felt that routines that basically are transpo effects pack so more punch when it's examinable (like a lot of Bannon's work), but nevertheless - the Stand Up Monte is outstanding and definately one of my favourite effects. Already worn out one set and soon a second one too...
