I FINALLY got around to seeing Chris's mentalism and hypnosis show. He was performing at a college near my house, so I snuck in. Lots of attractive college girls, and of course Chris was awesome!
A must see! His hypnosis made a believer out of me! His blindfold handling was superb. His performing makes me a believer in the statement that it isn't the tricks, its the performer. But the effects we're astounding too! |

Hi Doc
You usually give a fuller posting than this Perhaps when you can you will give us a fuller picture of what made his performance so good? Performance related posts are few and far between and very rarely go into detail. Any chance of telling us more about this one? :rotf: |

Lets see. I snuck into midwestern university where there we're 200 hot college girls waiting to see a mentalism show. I said hi to Chris, he informed em there would be some hypno. I don't want to go too much into his effects, but they we're good!
He used some patter about body language, and he knew what people we're expecting. He used funney jokes , but he's not a comic. His patter and jokes are so smoothely routined and placed that I think it seemed more like he just adlibbed (even though I doubt this). His blindfold routine was awesome. He uses about 6 feet of duct tape coins, and AN UNGIMMICKED blindfold. Some jokes insued. The mask was shown to be ungimmicked and freely examined. He then started taping and blindfolding. With 0 site, he answered questions, described objects, wrote words that he couldn't have known. This has gotten me reading everything I can about blindfold routines. His is truely unique, however. Chris makes them seem like real magic! I can see how one could step to the dark side and be an Edward or Van Pragh. Then came the hypno about an hour and a half worth of it. The spectators were hypnotised, I wanted to do it but I was afraid I'd miss the show. Look on http://www.mindcramp.com to see a list of things he does to these people. Batman was the best! He rescued a stolen finger! In simple, i do not get into effects as I'm sure people would copy them. I am vague and as such can't give that great a review. But lets just say his handling of the audience and management of patter and routines ranks superb. |

I saw Chris Carter's show at the Theater Building in Chicago. It was the closing weekend for the show, but Chris said he has plans to bring it back next summer which I believe will be the 3rd or 4th year for the show. I have to agree with Dr.Z, this show was awesome. I too ran home and started looking at my library for blindfold routines. Chris does a great presentation. Also, one thing he did that I found very interesting was to come out after the show for a Q&A session with anyone interested in sticking around. The only restriction was no one could ask "how" the illusions were done. Everything else, including ?'s about his personal life were fair game. Of couse I stuck around and enjoyed more of his easy demeaner as he struck up stories of his childhood and beginning interests in magic and psychology. Make the trip to Chicago next year and see this wonderful performer.

I heard the same stories of him growing up and his uncle....
You mean this is a staged story, NO! I really thought his mom bought him a book on psychological tells! Man, now I'm going back to being a card cheat, DOH! Just kidding, everything he does has been WELL thought out. This man has planned every aspect of his questions, and performance to make it flow as smoothely as possible, and it does. |

I'd love to get a chance to see it. Maybe he'll travel around.

He's a big name in the college circuit, I would email him to see where he's at. Maybe he'll be in your area. Where do you live? I have a couple of his performance dates on hand.

He does a great show. He actually has audience members write their names on a piece of paper, then he draws them from a bowl, and commences to tell them personal info, like their phone numbers, their vehicle tag numbers. Pretty good show!
