Preparing for a magic themed party could be a hassle for some Moms. does anybody offer or have tried magic themed supplies, such as cups, napkins, plates etc to upsell your show?

Perhaps the fault was in the selling, but I tried the napkins, plates, etc. and it was very, very, slow selling. Party bags sometimes, but it's hard to compete with the Dollar Tree and Oriental Tradings which many moms use as well.

Its allin how you present it!
I sell party favor bags and mini magic sets. I don't do the plates cups etc etc. I do however point them in the right direction to obtain these items and they love that. I think your a magicain stick with magic and magic goody bags not some thing they can find easily and cheaply elsewhere. they know nothing of what a magic trick cost- heck they pay $1.95 for a wand at the party store! sam

I use to sell party bags at just £1.50 a bag. I prepared 500 of them, which took me weeks of sourcing the toys, bags and putting them together. They then occupied an entire cupboard of my kitchen for over an entire year. Just last week I finally sold my 400th bag and enough is enough. I'm destroying what's left and using the toys in a pass-the-parcel and getting my kitchen back.
The worst part about selling them was cluttering up the website with a sale page for them and the confirmation sheets trying to after-sell. It added to the confusion of the site with too many pages and it looked really cheap and nasty like I was trying to bleed my customers dry for every penny they had. Its not a good look. About 1 show in every 15 would request them. It was simply not worth it. The value of my bags was very good. But I discovered throughout the year that the mum likes to make the bag themselves with their child as a project for them to do together. They understood the value of my bags, and knew it would cost more to do it themselves, but they felt that this might be the only party they do and they wanted to do the bags with their child. Another problem they had, was because they were advertised on my website and emails, some clients fought they came for free with the quoted price. It was written quite clearly that the bags are sold separately, but you would get the odd person trying to negotiate free bags - which causes you to say no, and negative emotions can lose the booking entirely. There is a chance that the amount of work they lost me far outweighs the small amount of money they bought in. But for me, the storage space was an absolute nightmare and I'm glad to see the back of them. My advice, don't do it! |
