That show (which was created by those who brought us 2 1/2 Men.) has such FANTASTIC charecters and has defined them so well. It has running gags that go for years. It is so well written.
I will be interested to see what happens after the 5th year curse. In general after 5 years of a sit com salary issues just make it incredibly difficult to keep running. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule but SO many charecters here are almost vital that they have to keep a lot of them. Hopefully it keeps running because I think it is a gem.

I only started watching it in the last month or so. I thought any show that popular couldn't be good. But once we sat and watched an episode I did like it. There are sometimes inaccuracies when they talk about psychology and some other stuff, but that can be tolerated because it's a sitcom.

Yea it is tough to demand psychological accuracy within a sit com, when the psychology indsustry itself does not get agreement!

I'm specifically thinking of Sheldon's misuse of the term "negative reinforcement." It's a pretty common error, and it was still a funny episode so I can live with it.

IMHO as far as that show goes:
Negative reinforcement is changing the channel when that show is on. Positive reinforcement is watching others discuss the show while missing it's basic premise (truly intelligent folks aren't like that - but some dolts like to ask others to imagine them as such). Punishment is watching the show. Extinction would be the main character (Sheldon) coming out of the closet and getting on with his life. The hyperverbal comedies just don't work for me. Murphy Brown was just over the line.
