I would like to pay tribute to Georges Méliès, the magician, the dreamer, the guy without whom we could not have today others magicians like James Cameron, George Lucas or Tim Burton.
Méliès was a master of illusionism, he bought Robert Houdin's whole collection of automatons and managed the Theatre Robert Houdin in Paris, created the Académie de Prestidigitation and the first Trade union of magicians (and remained 30 years its president). He became thereafter a world famous film director. The wheel of fate turned and he lost later all his money, fame, theater, family... He finished his life as a toy seller in Paris. A colored version of the Trip to the Moon will release on the screens next week, and a DVD pack with all his movies and documentary films about his life is available today. Finally, don't forget to place creation at the centre of your life. Of course, rights, money, commercial agreements, production etc. are crucial points, but it's very important to keep -deep in your brain- the sense of words like "dreams", "innovate", "inspiration" or "amazement". Otherwise please do another job... Personnally I fell in love with magic because it is an art where nothing, really nothing, is impossible. Humbly, I think that Méliès did too. Have a nice day ! http://www.melies.eu/English.html |

I studied cinema and I always loved the work of Melies with magic and cinema. A month ago a found this article in a magic web page related to Melies, it was great to see that some magicians still remember him.
http://bit.ly/vb2aWP I haven't seen Scorsese's movie yet! And I want to! Juanma. |
