Yes, each light is individual with full DMX control. I've been using these for about 18 months now, they really are great! If you got Kerry Pollock's Media Star, I believe you can control all your music and lighting cues thru one unit!

Wish we had these in the states so I could check 'em out first. Looks great though from what I can tell. It's pricier than I wanted...but you get lots of great features with that cost. Hmmm...

Hi Matt, it's me again. I've been real busy with our church's Christmas production but I will get back to you on what we had spoken about before.
Thought you might be interested in the software we are using for our play. You can find it at thelightingcontroller.com. Go under the announcement section and it will link you to the download page. You can download for free but the hardware (pc interface) you will have to buy. Two cool things about it: 1. A timeline that lets you coordinate your lighting scenes with your music track or video track. All you do is play your track and the lights run as programed. We are using this a LOT this year. Very complex lighting schemes run themselves! It's working fabulously. 2. They offer a free app for the Iphone that lets you operate it from your phone. Although we are not using this, I did play with it quite a bit and it works well. Thought you might want to know. They offer a "box" interface in the $400 range and a "cable only" interface in the $200 range. The cable limits the number of channels available but depending on the size of your lighting rig, it might more than suffice. Merry Christmas Corey |

Checked it out. Seems pretty complicated. Got it downloaded and played with it (without lights of course) and it seemed "ok" but there wasn't an apparent way to play music with it. Are you playing your music separately? I don't want to do that. I want it to be SUPER simple during the show. I think playing music separately would cause an extra button push. But maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, still looking for other ideas!!

Ok miscoes, I've looked at quite a few different software options and yours is by far the easiest to understand for me. I like that it is music driven. I can't seem to find other free or cheap software that allows me to combine music and lights in one program.
Questions: 1) How do I program the letters a-z like you mentioned? 2) I want to have SOME tracks fade music and others not. Is there a way to fade some and not all? I'll think of more later, I'm sure. Thanks for the help.

As for controllers... check out compuware.
Grandillusionsmagic uses COMPU SHOW. This is the newest version. There are a bunch of older versions (EC, FC, FC+, ...) but those older versions are actually running a program called COMPU LIVE. Download compulive here: http://lnk.nu/elationlighting.com/1vm1.aspx Check out the rest of the site, and you can download the newer compu show as well. Download it (the software is free), and check it out. There is a feature called "easy show" that allows you to load in the music, and set the lighting cues to the music. PERFECT FOR MAGIC!! (note, not all the older version support the "easy show" function (if I am not mistaken, the EC, and SD versions are the ones that do not have easy show enabled) The Compu programs are actually free... the dongle to actually use the software in a real life situation are not free. COMPU SHOW (the newest version) is over $1000. Check out craigslist, and ebay. The dongles come up there for sale. Just be aware, of the dongle version you would get. You want to make sure, that the one you are buying does have "easy show". Just to clarify... Compu show - the newest software and dongle Compu Live - the older software. LIVE is the software that runs in the EC, FC, etc... pfoducts. the software is free. download it at the link above. To use the software with real lights (and not just the 3d visualizer- that comes with the free software), you will need a dongle. Compuware EC, FC, FC+, SD, etc.... these basically are the version of the dongle you have. The dongle version will lock or unlock some of the features in the software (such as "easy show") Easy show - a feature in the software that allows you to sync music and lighting cues. Easy show is not available in the lower end versions. whew.. sorry for the rambling.... scott |

you are correct, I mis-typed I am using the compu-live (the older version)I know you can get the dongle for less that $1000. depending on the version I belive you can get it for $300-500. it depends on what features you want most people don't need more than one universe (set of 512 channels) or Ethernet universes. you can get just the basic dongle for one universe and be fine. call your dealer to confirm. Springtree Media has always provided great prices and service (if you don't have one, or one you like.. |

Matt.
You can download the updated version at: http://www.magogusi.com/soloassistant/So......tion.exe I've activated the feature of jumping to a scene directly with a keypress ( every scene can have or not a number o letter key assigned ) Also the possibility to select in every scene if you want fade out or not when Stop pressed. And, the point of start in the selected song (in milliseconds, to be more precise) so it's not needed to edit the audio file to remove silence at the start of the song. If you want to start in the middle of the song now you can do it. Pease, download the new version and let me know if you like it. |

So my fav. 2 software controllers so far are DigiSelect by Interfaze and also Solo Assistant by miscoes (on the Café). Here's my thoughts:
DigiSelect - good customer support. They listen to my requests although they may not incorporate them. Can control both lights and sound fairly easily. Somewhat limited because it is very simple. They went for simplicity rather than all the bells and whistles. Solo Assistant - also easy and good customer support. Can control both lights and sound also. Also limited, but maybe not quite as much as digiselect because I felt you had more control over individual tracks. Biggest complaint is the GUI (graphical user interface). The GUI has lots of fixer-uppers that could be done such as better graphics, english spellings, correct tab feature (when you "tab" over, the next logical space is NOT selected. It jumps around fairly randomly on the gui as the "tab" feature wasn't programmed). So my main complaint with Solo Assist. is it feels more like a fun programming project I'd do with a friend than a real piece of marketable software. So that's my initial thoughts. This comes from ONLY doing sound and just looking at the lights. I don't have stage lighting yet (next week or so...hopefully) so I haven't tried all the light features. Just looked at them. ok, that's it for now!

I have to agree with Matt.
There are reasons for the troubles he points. One of them is my lack of knowledge of english language. I speak galego and spanish as my mother languages but I'm not really english fluent. To avoid this trouble I'm testing a multilanguage system that will enable the end user to change the software language and also add as many languages as he wants. I'll be implementing this multilanguage system in other software pieces I do (in my daytime work) so it will be ready before february. The poor graphics in some screens is due to my lazyness in choosing lybrary graphics for this software (no excuses here) I usually develop management, accounting and microcontroller software so graphics appearance is a thing another workers in my company do. Anyway I can try to improve this. And, the strange jumps when pressing tab are due to the fact I do implement new functionalities as I can or as soon as an user ask for them. So, sometimes I add a new field in a setup screen but forget to rearrange the "taborder" property. Perhaps is time to reorder all the fields. And, yes, it's not intended to be commercial software but I have a loyal base of users who perform with it from some years ago and benefit from the continuous improvements I do based on their (and your) suggestions. After all, 50$ for the software, 10$ for a remote and perhaps 10$ more for a DMX interface is very cheap for all the performance of the system. In conclusion... Many thanks, sincerely, to Matt for his notes about the faults in the software. You are helping me to make it better. Happy new year to everybody. |

Absolutely! (PM sent about another matter)
I really think (bugs aside) that you've got a good piece of software there. It's not flashy...but it doesn't need to be for most guys. Most of us are looking for easy (both in use and in understanding) and CHEAP. Sure, we could each drop 1500 for the latest and greatest...but who wants to do that when a few bucks will get the job done with only a LITTLE more work? It's a no-brainer for most of us, I'd say.

I use the Digi-Select Program by interfaze Tech. I used the system for about 5 years now. I originaly purchased it for my Stage Hpnosis Show, but now I use it for every-thing (Kid shows, comedy magic show).
Realy easy to use. Easy to set up and to modify. I can have unlimited shows in the system and change from one to another easily. It also has a mode that acts as a stage promt. I love this system! Can you tell? |

Hello, Matt!
As far as positioning goes, take a look at the web site in my signature, and look at the two articles onn stage lighting, but especially "Stage Lighting, part 2". After reading that, read a bit more about the “McCandless Method” for stage ligthing. It really covers all the bases. https://www.google.com/search?source=ig&......0l0ll0l0 Cheers to a great day! Dan.
