Anyone else have the Revelations DVDs and would like to obtain just the Vernon lecture DVDS and CDs without buying the ENTIRE set all over again? I would! L&L's reply was that they were only selling it if you bought the new package.

Seems like a great deal to me! The value of the new material is over $200. The old Revelations set was $245. Combined value is about $450. This new package, pre-pub price is only $160. $300 savings works for me! Look at it this way, you were going to have to pay the same amount without the Revelations DVDs. Those are really the bonus. The marketing of these seems a little backwards, but in the end the value is certainly there. My order was in the first day.
Yeah I have the Revelations DVDs. I'll just give them away to one of the young magicians in our club. Win-win situation. I'm really looking forward to these lecture DVDs. I saw Vernon lecture in 1980 and up until now, there hasn't been any lecture footage commercially available. L&L, David Ben and others made this possible and I appreciate their effort. |

With the average price of DVD's about $35, I'd rather just buy the three Vernon lectures as a stand alone. I wish I had enough disposable income to justify paying for something I already own in the Revelations dvds. I appreciate the effort to release the lecture dvds, however I can't see everyone being in the position to give away something they own just to buy it again in a repackaged format....

I guess it's just a matter of perspective. I appreciate L&L putting everything together in one package. The three DVDs alone would have been $100 and it's less than $100 for the audio CDs and booklets. Now maybe some customers wouldn't be interested in the CDs and booklets, but I think that they are an important component in studying Vernon. Again, I think the marketing is backwards here. The lecture DVDs and release of the audio material on CDs & the booklets are really the new products and the Revelations DVDs are the bonus. That's how I see it, so I don't look at it as buying the Revelations DVDs again. The asking price for the new material is well worth $159.99 or even $179.99, regular price.
On another forum, David Ben posted about these stating that the only way this package was going to be released was as it is now, as the 30th Anniversary of Revelations. I got the impression, and I may have misinterpreted what he wrote, that the decision to put this package together wasn't the sole decision of L&L. Don't forget that David Ben consults with the Vernon estate over these issues. The lecture footage wasn't owned by L&L. I think the estate had some of it and the Larson's had the rest of it. I think what everyone was going for was a "legacy product", the definitive work in one affordable package. Unless you were around 40+ to 50 years ago and Vernon happened to lecture in your city, it would have cost about this much to see him lecture live at a magic convention. When I saw him in 1980 at the Desert Magic Seminar, it cost me a lot more than this. Sure I got to see other performers, but Vernon was the main focus (for me) and I don't have any video to remember it by. While he was good, he wasn't great. He was 86 years old and past his prime. But that was fine, I have the memory and was glad for the chance to see him in person. I'm amazed it's taken this long to get something to the market. The obvious importance of Vernon's work and the fact that it's still very relevant today should have triggered a lecture video release long before this. But I guess the people who were/are in control of that didn't want the material out or didn't want to invest in having it remastered. I think that at any time these could have been released for a lot more than this very reasonable package. |

The Revelations DVDs have a very good picture quality. Those have been out for years and I think were just about broadcast quality when they were first released. Very few people have seen the lecture footage because L&L hasn't started shipping yet. But if you watch the demo video on L&L's site, starting at about 50 seconds, you can see some clips from it. Looks great to me.
http://www.llpub.com/dai-vernon-revelations/ Maybe someone connected with the product will post something about that. |

My set arrived yesterday, and it is a nice boxed set. All the elements are the same size in terms of fitting into the set. Good design on this set, and I'm greatly looking forward to the lectures from the 1970s.

These dvd's are worth every penny. They not only teach you many different tricks but answer the question of why the trick is done. Vernon was a true artist!
