I quickly found out that once the rabbit appeared, the kids did not want me to flatten it, or make is go away, so I stopped using it and the wringer sits. My current program includes making two rabbits appear and the birthday child gets his own to pet, while the others share the second rabbit. My breeding pair just manufactured more bunny stock, so now I am going to devise a method of using more rabbits in the show. |

As with anything, it all comes down to the performer. I've seen some magicians do wonders with a rabbit. I'm talking about some very clever bits of business, many of which are completely overlooked by the magic profession.
I've also seen some smart rabbit productions that would make even the most jaded magician sit up and take notice. Frank Kaps and his rabbit production is a perfect example. Gerry |

I used to use three rabbits in my adult nightclub show, a black dwarf, a white dwarf and a black and white dutch. I won't go into the routines because they weren't for kids and involved blowing up, sawing, and otherwise tormenting the poor bunnies that we loved so much it leads to this post years later.
The black male(Spot) and white female(Speck) dwarves were pet shop bought and shared a cage. This was the late 1980s, the days of free rabbit hoppie love and they eventually did what bunnies do. The problem was that it turned out that Spot wasn't a true dwarf, he was just a small, um, un-dwarf. Speck could not deliver the litter, which were too big for her, and one in fact became stuck. A trip to the 24 hour emergency vet clinic resulted in a $400 rabbit hysterectomy; that's $400 in 1980s prices. For a $15 rabbit. What can I say besides "we loved our furry kids?" Oh yeah, we can say to buy your rabbits from a breeder and not a pet shop, make sure you see the mommy and daddy, and make sure you are gettng the breed you think you're getting. On a semi thread related note, we saw Chris Capehart last night. He used the rabbit for one trick and it stayed on his table just sitting there for most of the show. I think Chris did some other magic but I'm not sure - I spent most of my time watching the bunny sit on the table. Sigh. As folks said, perfect misdirection even for us jaded old codgers!

Almost makes me want to use a rabbit. Howie, I was joking up there. Settle down. Don't you see all the jumping pickles and peppers? Seriously, would I use all those in a serious post? Be serious. Seriously?
