I have had to make a few changes to my show for this Halloween season. I am looking for an idea for an effect that could have the look and feel of a forensic test that would show that evidence gathered from a crime scene would show that the killer was indeed a werewolf. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Dave |

Blood , urine, or hair DNA tests?
I would even subject the wolf to some foreign substance that would draw him out, like BLOOD? |

I don't know if you saw a previous post I made about "animated blood", but if you could get that substance working for you that could be appropriate. Have it in a test tube, and with the proper hidden gimmick you could have the blood "recoil" when a piece of silver is brought near.
You could produce some water in a test tube, claiming it was found in footprints at the scene. The water from the tracks/footprints of a wolf/werewolf is supposed to have mystical properties (such as turning you into a lycanthrope if you drink it), so almost any unusual water effect could be used. Perhaps it changes color when a moonstone is brought near, or begins to smoke and bubble if "belladonna" or "wolfsbane" is added to it (introduce some dry ice somehow). Perhaps some fur found at the scene could be blessed/purified/treated somehow, and at the end of the procedure, it has changed into what is very obviously human hair. This would have to be visibly very different, like a tuft of fur from a malamute or similar dog (anybody who has one could probably supply plenty, it is shedding season! ) changing into a lock of long blond hair for example. The "blessing" process would provide all sorts of opportunities for doing some sort of change, i.e. a box, an envelope, or more subtle sleight switches. To test the person, you could do the blister effect caused by something that is made of silver, to show that it is harmful to the beast. That's all I can think of now, hope they help! -Reg {*}

Reg,
Your animated blood idea would be perfect. The fact is, I had already thought about that. The problem is that the shows are so close and we are so far behind, no time to play with it, to see if it will work, and perfect it. You have not expermented with it yet have you? Thanks for the input though, there may be seeds of a usable idea in there. Thanks for 'chumming the waters' of my mind. Anybody else? Dave Theatre Macabre |

Dave, you know I'm convinced the animated blood will work but I just haven't been able to get my hands on that one material component (let's call it "ferric sprinkles") to mix it up and try it. I never thought it would be this hard to get a hold of. If you could get some of that, I would bet that any thick fake blood mixture would work (i.e. a corn-syrup based one) if you mixed enough of the "sprinkles" in. You would just need a powerful PK-type thingy as well. Wish I could tell you for sure, I'd love to hear of this being used.

Wouldn't this be hard to present on stage? Or how would you show the effect to everyone. I love the idea of animated blood. Its so genius coming from a Chemistry fanatic! Any kind of chemical supply store will carry these "sprinkles", however, you usually need to be affiliated with a school or chemical dept. somwhere. So start networking and making friends!! lol
