I have a normal sized chop cup, but I find that it's too big for me to carry around.
so I bought a mini version of a chop cup (it's silver and came with yellow balls). I got it used at my magic store, so it was only $6. I performed it for people a few times, and the first few times, everything went well. I loaded a strawberry for my final load one time and it was awesome cause it fit really nicely under the mini-cup! but then sometimes I found that when I would put the cup down to dislodge the ball, sometimes it would bounce back up and get stuck to the top again. so I stopped using it because I couldn't really rely on it because it only worked maybe 75% of the time. I generally just do magic for friends and family... so when I go out, I load up my pockets with small close up tricks... so I just like to be able to pull tricks out of my coat pockets at bars or parties or whatever... so if there was a mini-chop cup for sale that works... I'd be interested in getting one. I don't need a super high quality one or anything... just something that works. (i'm located in toronto, canada, so I can order stuff from the US, but it might be a pain to order from Europe or something) |

If you use a spectators hand instead of a table then the natural "give" as you put the cup down should help stop the ball bounce back up. Failing that check out the RNTII website.

Place the cup at an angle when you put it down.
This ought to stop the ball bouncing to the gimmick and send it to the side of the cup instead.

Adjusting the gimmicked ball can also help. That way, you don't have to bang the cup hard in order to dislodge - just set it down a little harder.

I use a '(cheap) Morrisey mini cup for strolling (no table).
http://www.morrisseymagic.com/Morrissey_......alum.htm I used to get 'bounce back' problems, but as Martin said, when performed on the hand, it is 100% reliable. Charlie |

Thanks guys... I'll see if I can develop a routine that works in my hand. I actually like that idea better than using a table anyways.
I actually bought that used mini-cup from morrissey magic now I just have to search my house for the little balls since I think my cats were playing with it and it rolled under a couch or something |

Once you get 50 posts, you can access the Secret Sessions. There is a whole bunch of material about that exact problem in that section of the Café.

Try finding some working balls with some weight. RNT2's balls come highly recommended and compliment the Mini Don Alan chop cups beautifully. Particularly the heavier gauge chop cups in copper, antique bronze or nickel plated.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
I went to the magic store and tested the cup out with a variety of balls that they had there... and I found a set that worked properly. so all is well! |

AT this point I have a Morissey mini cup on order. After reading the above posts, I would think that attaching a disk of appropriate thickness to the inside bottom of the cup should dampen the magnet's attraction enough to take care of the "bounce back problem."
ANy comments would be appreciated |

I have the Morrisey cup and think adding anything to the cup will cause a separate problem. Check out the threads in secret sessions on this topic . I use RNTII balls and modified original Morrisey balls. the bounce back isn't a function of the you know what , it is a symptom of the small size of the cup.

I just received my Morissey mini chop cup. I tested it both on a hard surface and on a closeup pad. The ball released correctly 100% of the time. I noticed that the cup held the ball a tad looser than I was used to in my 40 year old cup. Perhaps Morissey tweaked the cup in response to customer feedback.

The tip about putting the cup down at a slight angle works every time. If you put the cup down straight then you are also fighting air pressure as the cup comes down with force, air is forced upwards.

The problem is not in the cup, it is in the balls. I had the same problem with an older Don Alan mini chop cup from the 1980's. I gave up and put it away as being too unreliable. I recently bought a set of chopped balls from RNTII and have not had a problem since. Contact Donny and he'll take care of you. Work arounds are good but a reliable set up is far superior.

I have four sets of RNTII balls and they are way better than anything I've used so far, puts the penguin magic balls to shame.
