Hi
I picked up three stuffed toy rats in IKEA - identical except that one is white, one grey and one black. I feel there's the basis for a routine here with the rats changing color/colour. I could do it with square circle, tipover box or mirror box. But I can't think of a good premise for doing it. Any ideas?

The change bag comes into my mind. Could be used to change the rats too.
Maybe ask a child helper to put the rat into the change bag - but to be carefull because there might be a trap in the change bag. Kids love the element of danger, as we know from David Ginn. You asked for the premise for doing it. I don´t know. But maybe just do it, if it is a fun routine, the the kids will love it and not miss the premise/reason. |

Could you hide some monks clothes in one?
Then you could do the classic pulling a habit out of a rat. |

You could do a story about making a rat dissapear, but "mess up" the vanish so the rat doesn't vanish, but changes color.

Thank, yes, my current thinking:
use deck of animal cards to force picture of white rat After a bit of byplay, produce black rat and put in rat cage (square circle). Children not happy with black rat, so show other bit of square circle ("washing machine") Add water, bit of business, produce grey rat from washing machine "oh no, we forgot washing powder" (slush powder) Produce white rat

You find the rat among your props, but you're scared of rats, so you act scared and throw the rat in a box. Then you decide that as a magician you should make it disappear, but it goes wrong...

I did it on Sunday at a show. Got a good reaction. The Ikea rats aren't scary, they are cute. (Although my two kids (boy and girl) have real rats and don't find them at all scary)
My plan now is to add a little bubble machine to make the "washing" better And a smaller rat so that the washing can "shrink" it.
