Although this should probably go in the review section, I thought my comments might be of use to other handy-type Magicians: These plans are five dollars each and offer a lot of bang for the buck. If you're new at building, don't have many tools, and want to make some fun props, go. Buy. Build.
Of course, if you DO have a shop bulging with equipment, use the plans as a starting point for some pretty wicked looking stuff. Enjoy. No, I've no connection with the proprietor. I just like what I bought. Leland |

Doing some work on the first build from this packet -- a Flash Disappearance box. Going for a circus wagon sort of look here. Photos when available, but this morning I have to replace a radiator on my truck. And I have a bike rack that needs welding... :0/

The "other" Spellbinder is a great guy, he has some imaginative things on the site, and he loves to save money at the dollar store. Walt

Progress on the Flash Vanish Rabbit Cage, which will be a sort of Circus/Gypsy Wagon themed prop.
Yes, the plans detail the way to make this out of hardboard, but that's just not for me. The box is 1/4" Baltic birch and maple dimensional stock, the face frame attaches using threaded inserts, and the roller for the gimmick will be a piece of 3/8" aluminum rod. There will be bars in front of the opening, and I'm thinking brass but not yet decided. |

That's right, this month I'm the "other" Spellbinder. Next month it's Walt's turn to be the "other" Spellbinder. Nice work, Leland. I hope you'll let me post some photos on my "I Did It Myself" Gallery when you finish it up.

Nice work, Leland. I really like the facade.

I can't wait to see the next steps Leland!

Wait, there's now two of them in the same thread at once, or one of them. It's a doppelganger! @.@
Glad to post more pix as work progresses, and of course for the "Did It Myself" gallery too. BTW, this Flash Disappearance is part of a larger routine. I'm still working on the flow of the bit, but the bones are as follows: 1) A clear plastic container will be shown and placed into a box, which is then placed into a larger box and locked. Said container is described as being full of a Magical surprise for the birthday honouree. 2) A toy bunny will be magically produced; byplay, then the Flash Disappearance. 3) Additional byplay involving Charlie's bunny phobia, and the rest of the show occurs. 4) A newly redeemed Charlie sees that bunnies are really cute and harmless, and causes the bunny to reappear. No one sees the bunny? Why, s/he's inside that little box RIGHT OVER THERE! Unlock, reveal the bunny and give it to the birthday boy or girl. 5) Thunderous applause and/or a stampede for cake & ice cream result. I'll probably get a guest appearance on Craig Ferguson's show with this bit. ;0) Technical note for builders: After all my dimensioning and sketching, I cut double the amount of pieces I needed; as you know, most of the effort is in the set-ups and cutting a hundred takes little more effort than cutting one. The first pieces went into a full-scale and expendable mock-up, which then informed and altered construction of the actual working model. If I did more stage shows, I'd rig this wagon up to roll and make it a running (or rolling) gag. Next project: A "Lion Tamer" Hand Chopper based on plans from "that other Spellbinder," whoever it turns out to be. Cheers, Leland |

Mr Baker, thanks for the kind words! If only I could touch the hem of your robe, my apparatus might actually look like Magic!

Leland, my secret is that I don't show my mistakes. Not saying that you do, just saying that I make plenty, but I hide them from you guys. My facade is a skewed perspective.
I'm also a warped and twisted individual. If my character was afraid of bunnies, I'd make him reappear on a styrofoam tray, under clear shrink wrap! Ha!

I didn't realize that you were making this for a toy bunny instead of a live one. You do realize, I hope, that a toy bunny can be squeezed down very flat without complaining the way a live rabbit would? This reduces the size of the load chamber needed as well as the care and concern for the toy bunny after it vanishes. Just start removing stuffing until you get to the point where the toy bunny still looks good, but with a lot less stuffing inside.
This is why it pays to consult with me BEFORE you order from my site.

Hmmm, an excellent tip Professor, and glad to know there's a pre-purchase consult option as well. I gotta tell ya though, for five bucks it's an information-rich manuscript already. And a live rabbit upsell MAY be part of this prop's usefulness at a later time, thanks.
Mr Baker, there have been some shows at which a Bare Naked Bunny On A Tray would have been JUST the thing! "Hey, everybody, wanna see what happened to the bad, bad bunny who misbehaved at my show? *Appearance* Bwhahahaha...who's in the mood for LAPIN ROTI?" You, sir, need the straps on your jacket tighted! |
