I spent the weekend with Eugene Burger (I was his first magic student when he entered magic full-time in 1980 and we have remained close personal friends). Since I learned magic from Eugene, it is interesting to watch 30 years later, how my magic has shaped my hypnosis.
For example, I always begin impromptu hypnosis with the line: "Have you ever exprienced hypnosis before? If they say yes, I say "Great! I love to work with those who understand the power of the mind!" If they say no, I say, "Great! I love working with people who are learning something new." This is of course, a variation of Eugenes line: "Do you you believe in Spirits"... This afternoon his seminar focused on Equivique. If course the parallels between the "magician's choice" and even simple forcing are fascinating. The old Milton Erickson line: "It doesn't matter if you go into trance quickly, or slowly" is really the same faked option I become so comfortable using 30 years ago. As a hypnotist, I am often creating a behavioral force, that really is no different than a card force.... Although I rarely performmagic any longer (I should get motivated to post some video, and those who have seen my Mastering Hypnotic Power DVD have seen a few of my pure magic effects; when I am doing hypnosis, I am always heavily drawing from my bag of tricks as a magician. How has your magic influenced your performance of hypnosis? Either in scripting, performance, or character?

Magic has led me to mentalism and hypnosis as my skill with my hands improved and I started doing more forces and mind reading the card I found that it was more powerful than any number of flashy card tricks I had been doing for years. One people see as a trick, though amazing and mindboggling a trick none-the-less, the other they see as pure magic.
