I've watched all of the special features a few times. Young Frankenstein was also just phenomenal. Off the top of my head, I can't think of another parody that is so good that it could have almost been another sequel.

He discusses philosophy with Frankenstein and quotes Milton. I agree that a good book is not necessarily a good movie, but for most good books (including this one) there's no inherent reason why it couldn't be. It's not that eyre bad movies; they just gave up on much of the richness of a truly amazing novel for (apparently) no good reason.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

That's why I liked Bride of Frankenstein. Okay so the Monster wasn't as articulate as in the book, but he definitely had a wisdom and insight to him.

Young Frankenstein was a very loving and well executed parody of the Universtal Studios movies. It was an amalgam of Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein. I just complained a couple of posts up about how unpleasant I found the Hammer films to be. But I just watched Hammer's "Horror of Frankenstein" and enjoyed it quite a bit. It turns out it is considered to be a re-make and somewhat of a parody of the first Hammer Frankenstein film. It has a sly sense of humor about itself that I think the whole series could have benefited from. So it actually is a parody of a series that is now considered to be one of the series. |
